A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1103

Honestly, living with someone like that would be incredibly suffocating. It made perfect sense why she had wanted out.

Fairfax closed his eyes tightly. "She should return to me," he said, his voice laced with raw agony. "I should at least have something left to hold onto, shouldn't I?"

Amos fell completely silent. Something to hold onto. He supposed it was true—Fairfax needed an anchor right now.

"But she's his anchor, too," Amos pointed out gently. It was an undeniable fact. Herbert had taken her away to hold onto his own piece of her memory. Since both men were obsessed, there was no way Fairfax could just take her back easily.

"What right does he have? He's a nobody!"

Amos winced. If they were going to argue about 'rights', they were at a dead end. Neither of them had the right. They were both nobodies to her now. Fairfax might still have a piece of paper legally binding them, but in Starla's heart, he had ceased to matter a long time ago.

Regardless of what Amos said, Fairfax was dead set on tracking her down. But his orders to locate Herbert soon reached Yardley Hoggart.

The Hoggart family had been drowning in a dark cloud lately. With Starla gone, Yardley was tormented by grief. He constantly thought that if he could do it all over again, he never would have burdened her with the family's responsibilities. He would have just let her be the carefree princess of the family. She could have done whatever she wanted, loved whatever she wanted. No training, no expectations. He would have shouldered all the glory and the burdens alone, as long as she was happy. Everything related to duty shouldn't have touched her. Yet now, all his regrets were nothing but a bitter, heartbreaking joke.
