A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 96

Jeremy drove off in his Maybach. Having left the residential area, his eyes flickered toward a nearby pharmacy that was still brightly lit. However, before he could dwell on it, his phone rang for the third time that night, indicating that the hospital's situation had become quite dire.

It seemed like the patient's condition had reached a critical state, and Benson, along with another specialist, was taking turns standing guard in the hospital ward to prevent any complications. He immediately pushed all other thoughts aside and stepped on the gas, driving straight to the hospital.

In a state of delirium, Melody felt herself swinging between feverish warmth and sudden chills. She tried but failed to open her eyes, so she simply curled up in a fetal position.

It was already bright outside when she finally woke up with her forehead slick with sweat and her clothes stuck uncomfortably to her skin. Though she still felt lightheaded and weak, she forced herself up and slowly walked back to her room. It was then that she suddenly received a call from Felicia, which she promptly answered, saying, "Hello."

As soon as she said that, Melody suddenly realized her throat was dry and aching, and her voice had become notably hoarse.

Felicia asked, sounding surprised, "What happened to you?"

"I've come down with a bit of a cold."

Felicia hummed in acknowledgment before saying, "You should get some rest then. I just wanted to let you know that Madam Callahan tried calling you earlier, but since you didn't answer, she called me instead and asked me to check on you."

Melody rubbed her temples and asked, "What's the matter?"

"It's about yesterday's incident. Madam Callahan mentioned that after going back to the orphanage last night, she and some of the employees had checked all the food in the orphanage and found nothing amiss."

Melody stated slowly, "They won't be able to detect anything themselves. They should get the local health department involved to handle this."

She was momentarily taken aback. She had always been aware of his collection of luxury cars, though he rarely drove them, leaving them parked in the underground parking lot. He typically opted for a low-profile car of around 28,000 dollars, as he had no interest in showing off his fortune.

Yet, today, he had chosen to drive a Maybach.

It was then that Melody suddenly recalled his remarks from the previous night about sending his car for cleaning, inevitably causing her expression to stiffen slightly.

Tiffany, oblivious to Melody's discomfort, winked and playfully remarked, "It's no surprise you're so smitten with Dr. Chesson. I mean, he's got the looks and the money—who wouldn't be?"

"You've got it all wrong," Melody said, shaking her head. Her affection for Jeremy had nothing to do with his wealth or looks.

Tiffany, ceasing her playful banter, shared another bit of gossip, saying, "Oh, by the way, get this—Krystal and Dr. Chesson had a fight last night."
