Melody turned to look at Jeremy. She was about to say something when she noticed that Jeremy's gaze was fixed on her, too.
She stiffened.
"Denvin lied to you tonight," Jeremy blurted.
"I know," Melody answered quietly.
When she led Andrew and Krystal in here, she could tell from Denvin's behavior that he wasn't drunk.
Jeremy frowned slightly when he saw that she wasn't upset at all.
He repeated, "He did it on purpose."
Melody murmured a response of acknowledgement, clearly unconcerned. Then, she said, "Let's go."
Grabbing her wrist suddenly, he struggled to push down the storm churning inside him. "Is your tolerance for Denvin really that high? You knew he was lying, yet you still came willingly?"
Melody finally connected the dots. Looking straight into his eyes, she asked, "What are you trying to say exactly?"
Jeremy fell silent. His jaw clenched tightly, and he just stared at her.
Harold had observed that because he had let her down before, she was now particularly sensitive to it.
Yet, even though Denvin had just clearly lied to her, she didn't seem bothered.
Frustration bubbled in Jeremy as he was very much displeased with her double standards.
The emotions brewing in him were very real. He had a stony expression as he queried, "I thought you didn't like being lied to."
Melody was stunned into silence.
In her eyes, Denvin's actions weren't really considered lying, so she hadn't even thought that much about it. She simply said, "Don't read too much into it."
The grip on her wrist tightened considerably. His good looks were slowly enveloped in a layer of frigidity.
His brows furrowed ever so slightly as he said, "I'm not mad. I'm just reminding you so you don't get conned by people."
Melody asked calmly, "And what if I'm willing to be conned by Den—"
"Melody Wardolf!"
Jeremy practically growled out her name, cutting off her question.
He could feel his temples throbbing furiously. His anger had threatened to burst when he heard Melody's unbothered tone.
"You don't care that Denvin lied to you. However, when I merely disagreed with how you did some things, you held a grudge against me for so long."
Jeremy's gaze, carrying both anger and disappointment, fell on her.
Melody's breath caught in her throat, and her eyelashes trembled nonstop.
She tried to control the turmoil brewing in her while maintaining her composed exterior. Looking at Jeremy innocently with those crystal clear eyes of hers, she asked, "Jeremy, you agreed to the breakup. You're also the reason why I'm doing this."
