Jeremy didn't answer, but turned to look at Melody instead.
She looked downward. "I'm going to see Gwen first," she said before turning and walking away.
Krystal watched her leave, her lips reflexively pressing into a thin line. Unidentifiable emotions also swirled in her eyes.
Jeremy followed her into the conference room before setting the box down.
Krystal glanced at the snacks and the stuffed toy and scoffed. "What's the point of bringing home junk food and that cheap toy?"
Jeremy looked on emotionlessly. "What did you want to say?"
She didn't bother hiding her intentions and got straight to the point.
"I'm hoping you'll stop intervening in my adoptive father's matters. You know how things are with my family. If Melody doesn't let this go, everything will fall on me.
"My energy is limited, and the patients and surgeries at the hospital have been increasing lately. I'm exhausted, Jeremy."
When Krystal said these words, she could feel the sting of irony and indignance.
She had never lowered herself like this in front of others. However, Melody had pushed her to the end of her rope, so she could only come and beg Jeremy to back off.
Yet, even with her saying all this, Jeremy still remained unaffected.
He answered calmly, "She won't agree to it."
"As long as you don't help her, then she won't have any other way," she retorted instinctively.
However, as soon as the words left her mouth, she hurriedly added, "We can resolve the matter privately. There's no need to drag this to court. You know how my adoptive parents are.
"And there's Rocky, too. With his condition… If something happens to both my adoptive parents, then who's going to take care of him?"
Jeremy was the one who found Krystal in the first place, and she had always admired his capabilities.
Footsteps approached, and when Melody looked up, a shadow fell in front of her.
Jeremy was holding her box while studying her from head to toe. "Let's go home," he said in his low voice.
Following him, Melody asked hesitantly, "What did you two talk about?"
Truthfully, she could easily guess why Krystal approached Jeremy, but she still wanted to make sure.
She needed to make preparations in case Jeremy changed his mind again and no longer wanted to help her liaise with the law firm.
Jeremy answered indifferently, "She asked me to stop helping you with the law firm."
Melody didn't even realize how her body had tensed up when she heard that.
Jeremy glanced at her from the corner of his eye, and his eyebrows lifted slightly before he said, "I refused."
