A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 273

After all, it had indeed been because of Melody that the hospital had repeatedly been caught up in public scrutiny.

Thus, the matter needed to be handled properly.

If it really happened as she said, and they ended up trending online again, then it would likely be difficult for her to continue working in their department.

Melody didn't miss the flash of impatience crossing Jeremy's face. Her hands clenched tighter as she turned to the side.

"Krystal was the one who asked me to go there."

Jeremy's eyebrows twitched, and he heard her continue, "But unfortunately, our talks fell through. I refused to accept her so-called apology."

He looked at her, a shadow darkening in his eyes.

After a while, he finally asked, "Do you think you made the right decision?"

Stiffening, Melody stared at him blankly. "What do you mean?"

"Nothing," Jeremy replied flatly.

He didn't want to look into her eyes. The disappointment in them was like a blade that always pricked at him until he felt a strange discomfort in his chest.

And each time he felt that, his usual composure would always unravel.

He didn't like how that felt.

He preferred to remain sufficiently clear-headed. Only then could he make the best choices. Being led by one's emotions never resulted in anything good.

Melody was one such example. She always seemed to pick the dumbest option when presented with choices.

Jeremy recalled the time she had filled out her college applications. Her test scores actually hadn't been bad.

It would've been better for her if she had attended another university and studied something like finance or education, but she stubbornly chose to enrol in the Jembina School of Medicine to study nursing.

Jeremy went back to his room.

As Melody watched him walk away, a sense of bitterness slowly spread through her. She sat on the couch, hugged her knees, and buried her face in them.

However, Melody didn't respond as she knew him too well.

If Andrew truly were outraged and worried on her behalf, then he would've called her long ago.

He wouldn't have waited until now—until after he knew that she had gone to see Dennis.

Sure enough, Melody heard Andrew clearing his throat the next second.

"Mel, Dennis isn't in great health right now. You're a nurse yourself, so you should be well aware that he's not in a state to handle any more stress.

"So, how about we just let this slide? Krys has also said that she's willing to compensate you. You just need to name your price.

"Also, they're Krys' adoptive parents, so there are emotional ties. And we're all a family, so there's no need for things to escalate like this."

Andrew sounded like he was comforting Melody, but in actuality, each word he said showed that he was siding with Krystal.

Melody's grip tightened on her phone, and she asked in a hoarse voice, "And what if I say no?"
