A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 269

Melody slowly raised her gaze, her striking, clear eyes reflected her bewilderment. She asked Jeremy, "Do you think I shouldn't have asked them those questions?"

"All I'm saying is that you should've used another tone. As a medical professional, you should know that patients can't take emotional distress."

Jeremy's expression was emotionless. His furrowed eyebrows were the only sign of his displeasure with the way Melody handled the Quigleys.

Melody couldn't help but take two steps back. She murmured, "You only see them as patients, but you failed to realize that I'm the victim.

"They said Krystal doesn't have anything to do with this, but you heard them. They did it for her sake."

She couldn't help but laugh at herself. Dennis maliciously targeted her because he assumed that she would be mean to Krystal.

Her throat felt dry and tight. It was as if her strength was drained with every sentence she said.

"Jeremy, do you still think that Krystal is innocent?"

He frowned, not understanding why Melody would connect the dots this way. "You heard him yourself. He did what he did because he was worried that Krystal might get picked on. What does that have to do with her?

"Was she supposed to take responsibility for some things others did in her name?"

"What have I done wrong then?" Melody asked. Holding his gaze, she slowly walked toward him. Then, she pulled out her phone and tapped on Twitter.

Jeremy and Denvin pulled some strings to get her name off the trending topic and deleted the nasty comments. However, that did nothing to curb the insults and curses that the netizens sent to her inbox.

Tapping on the inbox tab, Melody showed him the private messages. "So, what have I done wrong? Why do I deserve to be humiliated this way?

"I received texts like these on a daily basis. Jeremy, do you know how it feels?" Her voice started trembling, and her eyes were overwhelmed with panic.

She would wake up in the middle of the night, and these words were the first to flood her mind, disturbing her and keeping her wide awake.

Jeremy immediately narrowed his gaze when he saw the nasty things in the texts. Then, his expression turned frigid, and he exuded an intimidating menace.

He asked, "Why didn't you tell me about it?"

"What good will that do?" Melody asked bitterly. "Can you shut every last one of them up?"

Trending topics could be tampered with, and the nasty comments could be deleted, but what would happen after that?

As long as she was still around, the netizens could attack her in many different ways. If her name were taken off of trending topics, they could still send her private messages.

Jeremy frowned slightly. It felt a little uneasy when he heard what she said. That said, he was in the wrong to begin with.

So, he stopped walking and asked, "What is your desired outcome?"

"I want a public apology." Melody bit her lips, looking utterly resolute. "Their apology will stay online for the duration I was insulted on the trending topic."

Jeremy didn't say anything back. He rested his gaze on her, his eyes laced with inquisitiveness and a hint of displeasure. It would be unwise to blow the case up any further, but he had given her his word that he would handle it.

Eventually, he nodded and agreed to it. "I'll do it."

Only then did Melody agree to go back home with him. Jeremy had promised her that he would handle the case. Although her request was troublesome, he did as he was told.

When Krystal looked for Jeremy, she was pale. She stood in his way and lifted his chin a little, her arrogance on full display.

Fixing her gaze on him, she said, "Tell Melody to come after me. My parents are old, and they can't take emotional distress like this.

"If she wants someone to take the blame and apologize for the matter, tell her to look for me instead. I won't shirk responsibility."
