A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 261

Melody was scared of the judgmental gazes of the onlookers. It was also terrifying to think that another stranger might show up to secretly take pictures of her or stalk her.

However, she heard Jeremy's explanation. "Pay no heed to the stuff on the internet. It's losing popularity as we speak."

She was immediately stunned. Casting a glance at him, she was about to ask him something, but she dropped it when it seemed like he wouldn't say anything.

The middle-aged couple had been locked up in the police department for as long as it took Melody to recover from her fever. When she saw them, they were visibly struggling, emotionally and mentally.

That said, they didn't forget the roles they had been given the moment they saw her.

"You rich people think you can get away with anything! Not only did you take my daughter's spot, but you even locked us up. How dare you guys say that you aren't diffident?"

The moment the man fixed his gaze on her, it felt like insects were creeping up on her skin, revolting and unbearable.

However, Melody stood her ground, explaining, "I don't know who your daughter is. I got a job at Jembina Hospital fair and square. The records are kept in the hospital, and they can be confirmed, too."

He immediately retorted, "Impossible! You're deaf. How could you land a job at a hospital, much less a fine one like Jembina Hospital…"

Before he could finish, Jeremy immediately interrupted him.

Jeremy had a cold and intimidating air about him, to begin with. However, his expression was as dark as coal, and his gaze was eerily calm as he stared at the middle-aged couple.

The man couldn't help but shrink when he saw Jeremy's expression.

Insisting in a deep voice, Jeremy mentioned, "Melody didn't take your daughter's spot. The hospital had presented evidence to you two. If you insist on making such a false accusation, she has the right to sue you for slander."

The middle-aged man was stubborn and wanted to retort, but Jeremy continued.

"I don't mind giving you two a helping hand if you want to stay behind bars for much longer."

Melody was still stunned when Jeremy led her out of the room. His expression was very grim, and this was the first time she had seen him this enraged.

She didn't even understand why he was this furious, so she asked in a probing tone, "Jeremy, what came over you?"

He immediately tightened his grip on her. Then, he closed his eyes, his expression somber.

For a while there, he had completely lost control of his emotions.

It happened when the middle-aged man called Melody deaf. It left him feeling particularly unbearable, making him feel that there was a boulder of frustration, rage, and a hint of vague bitterness suppressing his chest.

Not even someone as intelligent as him could immediately process the complicated emotion.

His voice was deep when he spoke to Melody. "Go home first. I'll handle this. You won't have to see them anymore."

The thing was, he didn't even realize that he was tightly gripping her hand without any sign of letting her go.
