A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 258

Melody scrubbed her skin vigorously, trying desperately to rub every bruise off. No matter how hard she tried, she still couldn't remove the patches of blue and purple. They were everywhere—her arm, waist, neck, face.

Basically everywhere.

Eventually, she couldn't take it anymore. As she raised her hand and covered her face, suppressed weeping echoed from the bathroom. The grievances and sufferings she had endured came flooding out at this very moment.

Melody didn't even understand what she did wrong. Why did everything suddenly become all her fault?

A wave of nausea unexpectedly rose in her stomach. She immediately slumped to the bathroom floor and dry-heaved with a hand on the wall. However, she couldn't throw up anything. Only tears fell out of her eyes.

Jeremy stood at the door, listening to everything that happened inside. His usual nonchalant expression was now tinged with anger.

He thought back to how the middle-aged man held Melody tightly when he arrived at the hospital's first floor. The calmness in his eyes was then replaced with one of menace.

The weeping sounds from the bathroom mingled with the pitter-patter of the shower. She had to be this careful, even if she was crying. For a moment there, it felt like someone had fiercely squeezed his heart.

Moments later, Jeremy turned to leave before disappearing into the study.

Melody was heavily ill. She had a high fever, and her body temperature reached a staggering 102 degrees Fahrenheit with no signs of coming down.

Initially, she wanted to go back to Felicia's place, but Jeremy prohibited her from leaving. She couldn't be bothered to argue with him either, as the fever had completely drained her and left her apathetic.

Melody spent most of her days spacing out. In just a few short days, she had lost a lot of weight.

Before Melody could respond, she heard the main door opening. Jeremy was home. For the past few days, he had stopped working late and instead came home on time.

He wasn't the only one who returned home, though. A gentle yapping could also be heard.

Melody was immediately stunned. The next thing she knew, Echo was wagging its tail and scampering toward her. Feeling a little surprised, she bent down and carried it in her arms.

She hadn't returned to Felicia's place for as long as she had been down with fever, and Echo was left in Felicia's care as well. The last thing she had expected was for Jeremy to bring it back here.

Raising her eyes, Melody looked at him and saw that he had a suitcase with him as well. It was the same one she took with her when she moved to Felicia's place.

Jeremy looked at Melody and said, "Felicia's place isn't as convenient and safe as mine. It'll be better for you if you move back in with me."
