A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 229

The cold, mechanical female voice came through, indicating that the phone had been turned off.

Melody held her phone, her face filled with confusion and helplessness.

She had just been able to get through…

But Melody didn't have the energy to think about why Jeremy had suddenly turned his phone off. By then, the pain in her ear was so intense that it was getting hard for her to breathe.

Calling Jeremy was almost like an instinct to Melody. She'd thought that he would appear when she needed help, like every other time before.

Besides Jeremy, Melody didn't know who else she could turn to. She had never really wanted to expose this vulnerable side of herself to others either.

Even with Felicia and Jason, she had always presented herself in the best possible light.

Melody could be stubborn in this way. She just didn't want her friends to treat her like a special case.

But Jeremy was different. Every time she felt helpless, it was always him who'd showed up. It was as if he could always stand in front of her and guide her out of those predicaments.

Over time, calling him seemed to have become an automatic response.

Felicia had once said that it was a misattribution of arousal. But even if it wasn't Jeremy but someone else, she would react the same way.

In any case, her misattributed feelings toward Jeremy had lasted until now. Her worst moments had always been witnessed by him too. So, she had developed a natural dependence on him.

But now, it seemed like he didn't want her to rely on him anymore.

Melody clutched her phone as the pain almost numbed her nerves.

Suddenly, a tall figure appeared in front of her.

Seth hadn't expected to run into Melody.

He first noticed a woman, and upon seeing that she was wearing a hearing aid and constantly touching her ear, his medical instincts told him that something wasn't right.

He had planned to ask her if she needed help but was surprised to see that it was Melody.

Melody's hand slowly tightened.

The sharp pain from earlier had made her break out in a cold sweat.

Her face turned pale. "I understand. Thank you, Dr. Seth."

Seth looked at her then suddenly said, "Let's exchange numbers, so you can contact me directly if you have any problems. Today's situation was pretty dangerous."

Melody stiffly took out her phone like a puppet.

Seth then thought of something and asked, "Where's Jeremy? If you feel discomfort in your ear again, you should call him or your family immediately. It could be dangerous if you don't."

When he mentioned Jeremy, Melody's body tensed slightly.

She rarely called Jeremy and usually only sent him WhatsApp messages. But today, she had called him three times.

It wasn't hard to guess that something important must have been going on...
