Melody looked up and saw that it was Jeremy.
She pursed her lips and said in a low voice, "Why are you here? Shouldn't you be preparing for your surgery?"
Jeremy lowered his gaze to look at her. He had heard everything she had said to Cameron earlier.
He had to admit, Melody really did know him best.
He truly had felt a little out of sorts during those first few surgeries without her. After all, when he had worked with Melody, he only needed to glance at her, and she'd know what he needed.
"I came to find Ms. Smith so we could go get ready," he answered in a low voice.
Automatically, Melody nodded and stepped aside.
Jeremy then gave her another glance before walking away.
However, he had only taken one step when he heard Melody call out to him in a soft voice, "Jeremy."
He looked back at her.
"You… Make sure you focus."
Jeremy's gaze lowered slightly, and his jaw unclenched a little. After a while, he gave a small hum in agreement, then turned to leave.
Gwen teased Melody, "What was that? Why'd you ask Dr. Chesson to focus? Shouldn't you have said good luck instead?"
Melody didn't respond.
Even now, her relationship with Jeremy remained in a tense state.
…
The surgery was long and lasted almost ten hours.
Melody had already finished her shift by then, but Jeremy was still in surgery. Thus, Tiffany dragged her to wait outside the OR.
Krystal's expression darkened instantly. Tiffany's words were basically lambasting her.
She coldly replied, "I've been researching related surgical cases lately. I'm just here to gather relevant data. I'm not that stupid, nor do I have the time to entertain your fantasies."
Melody didn't want Tiffany and Krystal to start fighting, so she hurriedly pulled Tiffany over to sit down beside her.
Krystal's icy gaze swept over her once again. This time, there was clear contempt in her eyes, but it soon disappeared.
However, neither of them said anything more and continued to wait for the surgery to finish in silence.
Finally, the light above the OR door turned off, and the door opened.
Melody automatically stood up, but she hadn't gone far before she saw Krystal walking over to Jeremy with a bottle of liquid glucose in her hand.
Her voice was cool, but the concern was obvious. "How did the surgery go, Jeremy?"
Melody stopped in her tracks, and she clutched the bottle of liquid glucose in her own hand even tighter.
