A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 184

Melody indeed couldn't handle pain well, but she rarely mentioned feeling pained when in front of Jeremy. In fact, this was the first time.

Jeremy silently stared at Melody. After he had confirmed that there wasn't any damage to Krystal's ankle bone, the image of Melody's red-rimmed and stubborn eyes popped into his head again.

He reached out to feel her forehead.

Because she had broken out in cold sweat, it was a little cool to the touch.

His voice was low as he said, "Turn around. Don't throw a tantrum."

Melody pursed her lips but didn't move. She liked Jeremy, but she wasn't an idiot. She still felt sorrow and grievances.

The words Jeremy had said in the hallway earlier were like a knife that had mercilessly plunged itself into her heart.

When Jeremy saw that she wasn't budging, his eyes darkened, and an inexplicable sense of frustration bubbled in him once again.

Nevertheless, he didn't leave.

Normally, under such circumstances, he would've left without any hesitation. After all, he didn't have the patience to make someone feel better.

However, seeing Melody like this only made him feel frustrated.

He could only chalk this up to one thing—Melody was feeling unwell right now, so she was technically a patient. Naturally, his sense of responsibility didn't allow him to leave any patient behind.

Melody propped herself up before turning to look at Jeremy. She wasn't crying anymore, but her complexion still looked quite pale. With a hoarse voice, she said, "You didn't need to come here. I don't want to waste your time."

Jeremy frowned. "Weren't you the one who asked me to keep you company just now?"

Melody stilled, and her lashes trembled slightly. As her throat was dry, her voice came out low as well. "As you said, that was just now."

Earlier, when she had been in so much pain that she had felt like she was about to collapse, she had hoped that Jeremy would stay with her.

But, he'd said no.

And now that she wasn't feeling as awful, here he was.

Melody softly said, "I'm not feeling as horrible right now."

Jeremy's dark eyes narrowed slightly. He stared at the side of Melody's face and said, "Krystal's had her check up, and she's okay."

"What's that got to do with me?" Melody reflexively retorted. She had no intention of hearing anything about Krystal from him. She knew that this wasn't right, but she couldn't control herself. She truly didn't want to hear about anything regarding Krystal—not even one bit.

Jeremy knew that he couldn't have a proper conversation with Melody at the moment. So, he paused for a second before saying, "You go back and rest. I'll stay and keep an eye on the IV."

Melody's heart was still aching, so she retorted, "I can keep an eye on it myself."

"You should be resting now. Otherwise, when you return to work later, your condition might get in the way of work again. Work when it's time to work, and rest when it's time to rest."

Jeremy insisted on staying, and Melody had no way of getting rid of him. So, she just closed her eyes and rested. She hadn't slept well the night before anyway.

Melody should've been happy now that Jeremy was here with her, but she felt no such emotions at all. Instead, the more dominant emotion surging through her right then was sorrow. It was the kind of sorrow that didn't dissipate even when she'd dozed off.

When Jeremy noticed that Melody's eyebrows remained furrowed, his lips pressed into a tight line.

With that, he turned around and walked away, leaving Melody standing there alone.

Melody knew that there was no possibility that that was the actual reason Jeremy had come to keep her company. After all, he was a highly rational man, and more importantly, there was no way that he would let her get in the way of work.

It was true that she wasn't physically fit to continue with work that day. If something happened to her while she was working, then that would only cause more problems. So, she was better off going home to rest.

Moreover, it was Children's Day the next day, and she had promised to spend the day with the kids at the orphanage.

On her way back, Melody stopped by a nearby mall to pick out some presents for the kids.

After her last photoshoot, she had received a few more offers here and there. One of them was even a youth literary magazine, and they had offered her the cover spot for their next issue at a very high rate.

However, what Melody didn't expect was for Jeremy—who had originally promised to go with her to the orphanage—to cancel on her.

An urgent and very important meeting had suddenly come up for their department, so he had to attend.

Melody knew that this was out of his control, but she still couldn't help but feel disappointed. After all, the kids had all been enamored with him after meeting him at the hospital previously.

Just as she was about to ask Jeremy whether he could squeeze some time out to go to the orphanage after his meeting, her phone suddenly rang.

It was Denvin.

She hesitated a little before answering it. Then, she heard Devin's indifferent voice say, "Regallo is hosting an event at the orphanage today. Do you want me to go pick you up?"
