Melody had to quickly lead Jeremy to a room so he could take a break. The Chesson villa was very spacious, and there was some distance between the party hall and the bedroom.
Melody didn't have much trouble at first since Jeremy still retained some of his consciousness and could walk on his own. However, when they got upstairs, he became a dead weight and slumped against her.
Melody detected a fresh, lemony scent mingled with a faint trace of liquor on Jeremy. His breath was warm against Melody's ear and neck, and it felt a little ticklish.
She leaned away slightly, but his hoarse voice cut through the silence, "Don't move."
His voice, which was melodic to begin with, sounded more seductive now that it was tinged with a slight hint of drunkenness. This certainly wasn't helpful given the fact that Melody was in love with him.
Following Jeremy's request, Melody stopped moving her head. After that, Jeremy, seemingly satisfied, continued following her pace as they climbed the stairs.
Jeremy hadn't been back at the Chesson villa for the whole year, and this was also Melody's first time going into his room here.
When she went in, she saw that it was the same minimalistic design he had at the apartment.
She helped him onto the bed and hesitantly asked, "Should I take your coat off?"
As a principle, Jeremy never lay in bed with coats, but he probably wouldn't want anyone to take it off for him either.
Jeremy raised his eyes to look at Melody. Judging by the clarity in them, he didn't look the least bit drunk, but he frowned as if he was considering Melody's question.
Then, he sat upright and took his coat off.
Melody let out a sigh of relief. Then, she said, "Get some rest first. I'm going to look for Ophelia."
But to her surprise, Jeremy reached for her hand.
Despite that, his cold look was still devoid of any signs of emotion as he said, "Don't leave." After a brief pause, he added, "Don't look for him."
In response, Jeremy slipped his hands under her dress and pinched her waist. Then, as if in warning, he said, "That's not what I want to hear."
Stunned, Melody said in embarrassment, "It's not about what you want to hear—"
However, what Jeremy did next cut her off and proved her wrong.
If he didn't want to hear something, he would make sure he wouldn't hear it. Or at the very least, he could make it so that Melody no longer had the energy to speak.
…
When it was over, Melody heard Jeremy whispering into her ear, though she was uncertain if he had sobered up yet.
"Don't leave me. He's not a decent man."
