Jeremy quietly observed Melody, but the emotions stirring in his chest made it hard for him to think clearly.
He repeated, "I said I could help you, but you rejected me."
Melody looked at him, and her heart ached with a dull pain every time it beat. She shook her head. "I don't need your help. I'll figure it out myself."
If Jeremy had offered to help her from the beginning, she probably would have been very grateful. But after everything that had happened, whether he helped or not didn't really matter now. And besides, he had once expressed how burdensome they were too.
Melody's rejection caused a strange sense of frustration to rise within Jeremy. The frustration in his eyes was evident as he stared at her.
Then, just as he was about to speak, a voice suddenly said, "Jeremy, Dr. Turner wants to see you."
It was Krystal.
Instantly, Jeremy snapped back into focus.
He closed his eyes for a moment, and soon, the frustration receded like a tide and left behind a deeper coldness in its wake.
He let go of Melody's hand and said in an icy tone, "I'm just reminding you—you can't outplay Denvin. If you don't want to regret it, don't keep in touch with him." If needed, she could come to him.
But of course, Jeremy didn't say that last part out loud. He was waiting for Melody to realize it herself.
Soon, Krystal walked over to them.
Despite her neutral expression as she looked at them, her gaze lingered on Melody for a moment longer than normal. Then, she said, "Are you still arguing with him over the promotional video?"
Melody hesitated and said, "I didn't argue with him."
Jason froze for a moment. Then, Felicia teased, "Adopt him? Then you wouldn't be able to date him anymore."
Upon hearing this, the group laughed and proceeded to enter the orphanage.
Inside the orphanage, Lydia and a few staff members were busy cleaning. When Lydia saw them, she clearly paused for a moment. "What brings you here?" she asked.
Felicia noticed Lydia's strange reaction and smiled. "What's wrong? Can't we come?"
"It's not that. It's just that you're all so busy with work. Shouldn't you focus on work instead of running to see me?" Lydia said, lowering her head to continue sweeping the floor and avoiding their gazes.
Felicia was a social news reporter, so naturally, she was skilled at noticing such small details.
Immediately, she sensed that something was off.
