Melody didn't say anything else.
Outside, the traffic was still bustling, but inside the car, there was a suffocating silence.
After a long while, Jeremy finally closed his eyes. He raised his hand and rubbed his brow before calmly saying, "I think you should seriously think about what's truly important, or else you won't get anything right."
…
Their conversation that evening clearly wasn't successful, but the number of people in the department who talked about Melody and Jeremy breaking up had decreased significantly.
Tiffany leaned in to quietly share some news she had heard. She said, "I heard that when Dr. Chesson came to pick you up that day, he specifically asked the head nurse where you were going. Apparently, he said he was coming to take you home.
"I guess he heard those rumors too, so he came to show everyone that you two aren't breaking up. I find him less annoying now."
However, Melody didn't feel much about it because she knew that Jeremy's actions were simply about fulfilling his responsibility. He said he wouldn't break off their engagement, so of course, he wouldn't let others spread rumors.
Tiffany noticed that Melody didn't seem too happy and asked, "What's wrong?"
Melody shook her head. "I'm just thinking about the orphanage."
Tiffany knew what had happened. As soon as she heard this, she sighed. "These capitalists really have no humanity. They're so heartless. They're definitely going to get their comeuppance."
…
Whether they would get their comeuppance or not, Denvin had been visiting Melody more frequently.
One day, he came by and told her that Celestial Group seemed to have discovered that someone was investigating the matter. So, they had noticeably reduced their recent purchases and even closed two of their warehouses.
Melody's heart skipped a beat. She asked, "Do you think they'll reflect on their actions and stop because of this?"
Lydia couldn't bear seeing children suffer, but then again, she was much older now.
Denvin didn't argue. "I'm just reminding you. By the way, what about your friend who works as a reporter? Has Zachary taught her what news can and can't be reported?
"Even if she has the support of the Yorks and Stantons behind her, if she really pisses someone off, no one will be able to protect her."
After saying his piece, Denvin was about to leave.
However, Melody called out to him and sincerely said, "Thank you, brother."
Denvin's face instantly darkened, and he unhappily said, "Who's your brother? Don't call me that. Cheryl and Krystal are my only younger sisters."
Melody froze, lowered her head, and quietly apologized, "Sorry."
