Andrew's words could only be taken as a threat.
Melody's body trembled slightly. She spoke in a low voice, "You can't do this."
"Melody, you've always been such a good daughter. Why are you being so stubborn this time?" Andrew sighed. "I know you've been saving up for your surgery. I even said I'd help cover the medical fees.
"You need to think about yourself. Those people won't bring you anything."
He rubbed his forehead, clearly frustrated. He hadn't expected Denvin to get involved in this. They'd never seen eye to eye. He knew Denvin was rebellious and wouldn't spare him any pride or respect.
Andrew didn't have a natural talent for business. The Wardolf family had risen thanks to Benjamin, and when he passed away, the company fell into Andrew's hands.
In ten years, he had already dragged the family down quite a bit. Otherwise, they wouldn't have had to push so hard for a marriage alliance with the Chesson family.
Denvin was different—he had a much sharper instinct for business. So Andrew had no choice but to hand over the Regallo Group to him, while he started a new venture with the Regallo Charity Foundation.
He might've acted broke to the outside world, but Andrew knew exactly how much money was in charity work. And he wasn't about to give up that slice of the pie.
After that call, Melody couldn't shake a growing sense of unease.
It felt like Andrew was planning something.
That uneasy feeling stuck with her until her supervisor called her in again. This time, it was about the promo video she was supposed to shoot—apparently, there was going to be a change.
Some other departments weren't happy with the decision, so they wanted to hold a vote instead.
She didn't really mind. However, the thought that this might be Andrew's doing left a strange, hard-to-describe feeling in her gut. Whatever it was, it didn't feel good.
Tiffany was angrier than she was. "What the hell is management doing? First, they say it's you. Now they're saying everyone gets to vote. Are they playing games with us?"
Melody said, "Isn't this better? Honestly, I didn't think I was the right person anyway."
She did want to make money, but she wasn't the type to bet on something she wasn't sure about.
Tiffany sighed. "Why are you always so soft? If it were me, I'd demand an explanation."
Melody said quietly, "I have more important things to focus on right now."
He had nothing more to say after that and only felt a tad bit disappointed.
After they left, he turned to Jeremy. "Did you two have a fight or something? You guys haven't seemed right lately."
Jeremy paused mid-motion while sorting through some files. "No," he said flatly.
Harold clicked his tongue. "You know what you look like right now? Like someone who just got dumped by a jerk and is trying way too hard to act like they're fine."
He noticed that Jeremy had been in a foul mood for days. He kept swinging by the nurses' station for no reason. Not to talk, but just to flip through charts or give random orders.
After a beat, Harold corrected himself, "No wait, that's not right. You're the jerk. Melody's too sweet—there's no way she did anything wrong. You must've pissed her off."
He went on, lecturing earnestly, "Relationships aren't a one-way street. It takes two people moving toward each other. If only one of you is doing the running, it's only a matter of time before they burn out."
He just wouldn't stop talking, and Jeremy, who was already in a sour mood, was getting more irritated by the second.
He lifted his gaze, cold as ever. "If you've got nothing better to do, get back to your damn ICU."
