Andrew only called Melody when he needed her. Otherwise, he ignored her, later claiming he was too busy.
Laura was even less likely to pick up.
After a pause, Melody sent Denvin a message on WhatsApp.
To her surprise, he called at once, his voice cold. "What is it? Spill it."
Startled by his quick response, she hesitated.
His impatient tone sounded again. "If there's nothing, hang up."
"Denvin, I wanted to ask if Dad is home. He didn't answer my call."
"He went to an event today."
"When will he be back? I need to talk to him."
"No idea."
Melody frowned. "Alright, got it."
Hearing her disappointment, Denvin clicked his tongue. "He'll be back tonight."
With that, he hung up.
Melody stayed at the orphanage until afternoon, then headed to the Wardolf residence.
She didn't expect to run into Jeremy and Krystal outside. Their black-and-white outfits matched like a couple's clothes.
She glanced at Jeremy. He was talking to Krystal, his eyes lowered and his expression soft and gentle. The harmony between them was something she never had with him.
Melody dug her nails into her palm and turned back to Andrew.
As soon as she looked away, Jeremy's eyes shifted to her.
Krystal was telling him about a patient's recovery, but his attention rested on Melody.
Melody felt tense, her fists clenched, her back straight.
At last, Andrew nodded. "Speak. No need for the study. Here is fine."
He thought she would bring up some trivial matter about herself, so he paid little attention.
