A Reborn Bride Pearl Emerging from Dust novel Chapter 843

After Uriah stormed out in a huff, Calliope leaned against the upstairs railing, looking down at Silas. “Looks like you’ve pissed off your buddy.”

“He had it coming,” Silas replied, glancing up at her with a soft smile. “That’s what he gets for messing with Mavis.”

Calliope smirked. She’d just checked in with Mavis.

Mavis already knew about Uriah’s situation. In fact, she was keeping her distance on purpose. She was perfectly clear-headed now, after realizing there was no way she and Uriah could ever work out, she’d let him go completely.

She’d told Uriah straight up: from now on, they’d keep their distance. She wouldn’t love him anymore, and she sure as hell wasn’t going to hang around waiting for him to love her back.

Calliope had no problem with that. She knew all too well how much Mavis had done for Uriah in the past.

Mavis had loved Uriah fiercely. The moment she realized she’d fallen for him, she’d been fighting her feelings, working up the nerve to finally confess. But when she did, Uriah shot her down.

Even after he rejected her, though, he kept treating her way too kindly, maybe because he was her mentor, or maybe because he had no idea what he was doing. Sometimes, honestly, his kindness seemed way more than what a regular mentor would do.

Of course, that only led Mavis on, kept her hopes up. So she chased after him for a long time, and got hurt, over and over.

Eventually, to put a stop to it, Uriah did some things that were pretty harsh. Maybe too harsh.

Calliope never expected things to end up like this. She thought that if she told Mavis about Uriah’s situation, Mavis would soften, maybe even go check on him.

But Mavis? She was resolute. She said she was done getting tangled up with Uriah.

“If he figured out that me and Norton were just pretending, then fine. I’m done pretending. I’ve been alone for years, I’m not getting any younger, and I think it’s time I found someone who actually wants to be with me,” she’d said.

She was even thinking about trying her hand at dating apps or maybe letting her friends set her up. If she found the right guy, she’d get married.

Calliope felt a twinge of sympathy for her, but honestly, she knew that Mavis and Uriah together probably wouldn’t have a happy ending anyway.

Most importantly, Uriah himself was still a mess. Maybe he was just feeling lonely now and suddenly realized Mavis was good for him, but next thing you know, he’d remind himself he was her mentor and think it was all wrong. He just couldn’t make up his mind.
