Calliope shot Uriah a frosty glare. She was clearly unimpressed with his attitude. After all, Mavis was her friend.
“Uriah, if you keep acting like this, I’ll lose all respect for you!”
“You hear that? My wife says she’s losing respect for you,” Silas chimed in as he walked out of the kitchen, drying his hands on his apron. He wrinkled his nose at Uriah. “Jeez, how much did you drink? You reek of whiskey.”
“Just… stay with me, man,” Uriah pleaded, grabbing Silas’s arm.
Silas shook him off with a look of annoyance. “Give it a rest, will you? You should be talking to Mavis, not me! If you like her, just tell her. What do you want from me? You broke her heart, now fix it yourself!”
“I can’t,” Uriah muttered, shaking his head, eyes red. “She won’t want me back. I screwed it up.”
He clung to Silas, desperate for advice from his best friend.
Calliope, not wanting to listen to their drama, waved goodbye to Silas and headed upstairs.
The moment she was gone, Uriah slumped on the couch, burying his face in his hands, looking utterly defeated.
“Silas, what do I do? I’m a mess. I can’t think about anything but her,” he groaned. “But now she’s avoiding me. I miss her so much. I really do.”
“Then go see her,” Silas said, taking a sip of water. “Talking to me won’t help. If I tried to drag her over here for you, my wife would kill me.”
“I’m not asking you to kidnap her!” Uriah snapped, lifting his head, his eyes rimmed with red.
“So what do you want?” Silas raised an eyebrow. “You kind of brought this on yourself, you know.”
“I know, and I regret it,” Uriah mumbled, staring at the floor.
