Everly had left the city for a few years, so she wasn't particularly familiar with the surroundings. After leaving her son to Gloria, she took a taxi to her destination.
After getting off the car, she looked up and saw that there were several words written on the top of the clubhouse--AY Club.
This name was quite stylish.
The doorman took her upstairs. Just as she reached the corner, Everly swept her eyes and saw a cold and straight back.
It looked familiar.
Everly subconsciously slowed down. She happened to hear the man whispering, "... I'm not ready to sign that project. I didn't sign the letter of intent. Besides, there are still a lot of problems with that contract."
Everly was slightly stunned.
She could not have misheard this voice deep, which was deep and somewhat cold. It was Maverick's.
Looking in that direction again, Everly finally saw Maverick's handsome side face.
With one hand in his pants pocket, Maverick held his mobile phone with the other hand. Meanwhile, half of a cigarette was between his slender and clean fingers.
The man wore a smile. But it was full of mockery.
When the person leading the way saw Everly suddenly stop, he turned around and was about to call her.
Everly quickly made a silent gesture and whispered, "I know the way. Thank you. I have something to do. I will go up in a moment."
"Alright." The doorman quickly left.
Everly felt that the "project" that Maverick had just mentioned had something to do with her.
She knew that eavesdropping wasn't good, but she couldn't help but tilt her body slightly to the side and hold her breath to listen quietly.
"Yes, they released a piece of false news. I can tell the pros and cons ... I don't have any other thoughts."
Maverick raised his eyebrows slightly when he said this.
His gaze had always been ice-cold. Now, there was a hint of languor and charm in it.
Maverick pulled out his hand and took a puff of his cigarette with narrowed eyes. The person on the other end of the phone said something, and then Maverick snorted, "I still have something to do tonight."
"No, I know about LAL. I don't intend to sign it. Someone from their branch has talked with me."
"..."
"Well, talk about it later. I'll hang up."
As Everly spoke, she subconsciously turned to look at Maverick.
Everly happened to meet Maverick's eyes.
Their eyes met.
Everly was enraged. Since she was caught eavesdropping on him, awkwardness and guilt surged through her.
Within tens of seconds, her emotions fluctuated so much that the expression on her face was amusing. Everly froze there.
Maverick dusted off the ashes. Staring at Everly, he directly crumbled the cigarette butt. Then, he placed it on the windowsill behind him, and pressed it hard.
A faint smile lifted the corner of his mouth.
Afterwards, he turned around slowly and went off in another direction.
Everly finally figured out what Maverick implied, and her face flushed red with anger.
What was he doing?
Was he laughing at her?
