Jared never broke stride.
He drifted forward like a phantom, his gray robe stirring in the night wind.
With a casual motion, he raised his right hand and swept it through the air.
A gray palm wind moved without a sound. It struck with the speed of thunder and the momentum of a galloping horse. Before the two guards could react, their golden swords shattered into countless pieces that spun through the air like fragments of golden glass.
The same force hurled both men backward. They struck the stone pillars flanking the entrance, grunted once, and lost consciousness.
He shoved the weighty vermilion doors apart and crossed the threshold.
They slowly closed behind him with a muffled boom.
The courtyard beyond was far larger than it had appeared from outside, measuring several hundred feet on each side.
Smooth, even flagstones paved the ground and reflected a cold gleam beneath the moon. Neatly pruned spirit trees stood on either side. Their crowns rustled in the night breeze like countless people whispering among themselves.
A stone fountain occupied the center of the courtyard. Water poured from the mouth of a carved beast and scattered into tiny silver glints under the moonlight.
The main hall blazed with light. Golden radiance escaped through gaps in its doors and windows, washing half the courtyard in a warm glow.
Jared stopped at the courtyard's center. His violet eyes swept over the surroundings, and his quiet voice reached every corner of the main hall and both side wings with perfect clarity.
"Damian Shore, come out and face me."
The instant he finished speaking, three golden figures shot in from different directions.
They crossed the night sky like bolts of lightning, drawing three golden arcs before landing precisely around Jared in a triangular formation.
Their feet touched the ground without a sound, and the flagstones beneath them did not tremble. They were clearly veterans of countless battles.
They were the three elders.
Their faces differed, but dense golden divine light surrounded them all. The aura of three Grand Zenith Immortal Level Two cultivators descended like three invisible mountains, crushing the courtyard air until it warped.
The elder in front fixed Jared with a cold stare. His low, commanding voice rasped like a blunt blade dragged across metal. "You again? You escaped last time, yet you dare deliver yourself to our door? What do you think Azurewave Island is, a place you can enter and leave whenever you please?"
"Tell Damian to come out."
Jared's voice remained as calm as deep water. He did not spare the three elders a glance, but looked past their shoulders toward the sealed doors of the main hall.
"Insolence!"
The elder on the left roared and tightened his grip on a pair of war hammers. Golden divine light erupted from his palms and flooded into the weapons, causing the sacred sigils across both hammers to blaze. "A junior at Golden Immortal Level Six dares address the island lord by name? Do you even know where you stand?"
Jared gave no answer. He merely lifted a hand and flicked one finger.
A gray-violet sword beam shot from his fingertip with astonishing speed, a silent flash of lightning that instantly pierced the layer of divine power covering the golden war hammers.
It struck precisely where the head of the left hammer joined its handle, the weakest point of the entire enchanted weapon.
