A Man Like None Other (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6784

Kael nodded, then turned to Neris and Riven. "You heard him. We'll split up. Neris, take the reef zone to the north. The currents there are complicated, so be careful.

"Riven, search the ruins of the seaweed forest in the east, where the deposits are thickest.

"I'll handle the plain in the middle. We'll meet back here in two hours."

Neris and Riven nodded together. Their figures flashed and became two streaks of blue light speeding toward their assigned areas.

They soon blurred into the murky water like two drops of ink dissolving into the sea.

Kael was about to leave when Jared called after him. "Wait."

Kael looked back. "What is it?"

"You only just recovered. Don't push yourself too hard," Jared advised, Kael's reflection visible in his violet eyes.

"Stop and rest if your spiritual energy begins to run low. We have plenty of time. There is no need to rush this.

"Damian won't pursue us here, and this polluted region isn't going anywhere overnight."

Kael paused, then smiled. "Don't worry. I'm not that fragile. Besides, a little exhaustion will be worthwhile if we can restore these waters.

"I still remember the first time I hunted here as a child. Everything I saw was blue and alive. Watching it become this is more painful than being injured myself."

He quickly disappeared into the dark water ahead.

Jared watched the direction in which Kael had gone but said nothing more.

Turning around, he swam forward over the underwater plain. Gray chaotic force circulated slowly around him like a quiet undercurrent.

He could sense the concentration of nether energy below resonating soundlessly with the Water Clan power inside him.

The resonance was faint but unmistakable, like two kindred strings resonating gently beneath the water.

He stopped and looked down at the gray-black deposits underfoot.

They rolled silently through the water as if breathing, steadily releasing nether energy like living creatures.

Roughly two hours later, all three Water Clan cultivators returned to the appointed meeting place.

Weariness showed on the faces of Kael, Neris, and Riven. They breathed much more heavily than before, and gray-black grime covered their waterscale armor, but an unfamiliar light now shone in their expressions.

It resembled the first glimmer piercing a long darkness, faint yet undeniably real.

Kael raised a hand and pointed toward a hill-like shadow nearby. "Every source of contamination we found is over there: sea-beast carcasses, gray-black deposits, and the roots of seaweed that were completely infected.

"The three of us made more than a dozen trips. That should be almost everything we could locate in this region."

Jared followed his gaze. The heap of pollutants formed a small mountain whose gray-black sheen made it look like a silent grave in the dim sea.

The nether energy rising from it was so dense that it seemed almost solid. An invisible black fog hovered over the mound, churning and circling as it released a nauseating stench of decay.
