A Man Like None Other (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6779

"Here we are, face-to-face again."

Calder Stillwater's voice was low and calm. His gaze rested briefly on Jared before shifting to Kael. "What happened?"

Kael quickly recounted everything that had taken place on Azurewave Island: how they had entered through the underwater fissure, how they had fallen into Damian Shore's trap, how Jared had blocked the attacks of three Grand Zenith Immortal Level Two elders, and how Neris and Riven had summoned a tsunami to cover their retreat.

He also explained how Jared had concealed their auras with chaotic force and flown them away from the island.

Calder listened without any change in expression, but the currents around him began to move faster, like an undercurrent churning in the depths.

After Kael finished, Calder remained silent for a long time.

At last, he asked slowly, "You're saying he used some kind of power to shield all of you from the suppression of the celestial realm's laws?"

"That's right," Kael replied with a nod. "The power was extraordinary. Once it covered us, we no longer felt the pain caused by the laws' suppression. He calls it chaotic force."

Calder looked at Jared again. Complicated emotions moved through his ocean-dark eyes as he studied the young man for a long while.

Then he addressed the captain. "Let him in."

The captain faltered. "Calder, but he's still human..."

"I said, let him in."

Calder's tone remained even, but it carried an authority that brooked no dispute. "He saved members of the Water Clan, which makes him our benefactor.

"Rules are rigid; people can adapt. If we turn away the man who saved our people, what right do we have to claim that the Water Clan values loyalty and honor?"

The captain opened his mouth, then thought better of arguing. He stepped aside.

Following Kael, Jared passed through the heavy coral-stone gate and formally entered Deepblue City.

White coral paved the ground beneath his feet and yielded slightly with every step.

Glowing seaweed along both sides of the streets bathed the city in gentle light. Refracted through the water, the radiance split into countless brilliant ribbons that made the underwater city look like an enchanted realm.

Water Clan cultivators stopped wherever they passed. Curious, guarded, and appraising eyes followed Jared, their rare visitor.

Some whispered among themselves and others pointed, but no one tried to stop him.

Calder led the group through several streets to a white hall in the heart of the city.

This was Deepblue City's Council Hall. Luminous pearls of every size covered its walls and lit the chamber as brightly as day.

A huge circular stone table occupied the center of the hall. A finely detailed nautical chart had been carved into its surface, and blue spiritual light moved slowly through the map beneath the pearls' radiance as though the depicted waters were alive.

"Sit." Calder gestured for everyone to take a seat before settling into the place of honor.

Jared sat beside the stone table. His eyes swept over the elders' wary faces, but he offered no explanation without being asked.

Here, he understood, he was the one who had to account for himself.

"What is your name?" Calder asked.

"My name is Jared Chance."

"Jared Chance?"

Calder regarded him steadily. "Why do you carry Water Clan power inside you?"
