"Hold them."
The man in white spoke without emotion.
"There's no need to finish quickly. Keep them occupied. Don't disturb my thoughts."
The next instant, battle erupted again.
Seven celestial Immortal Lords attacked together.
Godslayer War Halberds ripped through the sky. Divine Prayer Jade Tablets pressed down against immortal power. Vast fields of heavenly lightning fell through layered thunder patterns while chains bound the surrounding void.
The six origin lights rose in response.
Heaven-scorching fire, life-creation force, temporal star-trails, and spatial blades crossed through one another.
Ghostly blue flame exploded around Ghost Seven as soul-annihilating cold swept across the battlefield.
Golden, multicolored, and ghostly blue law currents collided.
A massive flash consumed the sky and shattered the surrounding space for hundreds of miles.
Shock waves repeatedly tore through Black Abyss Valley.
Deep craters opened across the ground. Rock layers overturned. Earth veins snapped. The remaining plants carbonized instantly, and dust blotted out the sun until the entire valley went dark.
The clash of blades and halberds, immortal and divine power, and nether flame burning against celestial souls echoed across the Twentieth Firmament.
At the edge of the battlefield, the man in white stood with his hands behind his back.
He watched in silence.
Broken space, bleeding immortals and celestials, collapsing mountains—none of it seemed to concern him any more than shadows moving across a wall.
Occasionally, he glanced over the battle long enough to confirm that his seven subordinates had not lost ground.
Then his attention drifted away again.
Outside the main battle, Aureon had no interest in anyone except Jared.
Hatred accumulated through twenty deaths burned inside his eyes.
He drew in his divine light and walked slowly across the shattered ground toward Jared, stepping over broken stone and old trails of blood without once hurrying.
Each footstep made the earth tremble.
His pressure built layer by layer, deliberate and leisurely, like a cat choosing to play with a trapped mouse before killing it.
"Jared."
Aureon's voice dropped low.
Every word carried the hatred carved into him by those twenty deaths.
"You killed me twenty times. You burned my soul, shattered my Sovereign Blade, and ground me into dust.
"Now time has been turned back and the order of Heaven restored. It's my turn to settle the debt.
"I'll make you suffer a hundred times—no, a thousand times—what you did to me. Every wound you gave me will be returned."
Jared bit down on his bloodless lip and used what little the spacetime reversal had repaired to force his swaying body upright.
His chaotic force was still nearly empty.
Cracks remained throughout his meridians. His cultivation foundation was damaged.
The reversal had pulled him away from the edge of death, but it had not restored him to fighting condition.
Even lifting the Dragonslayer Sword took almost everything he had.
His fingers still closed around the hilt.
"Gwendolyn. Back up. Get farther away."
She shook her head.
Ignoring the wounds across her body and the backlash tearing through her meridians, Gwendolyn moved in front of him.
Determination filled her ice-blue eyes.
Her hands formed seals, gathering the final thread of Ice Goddess essence inside her body into a thin, half-transparent wall of ice.
The barrier was pitifully weak.
The frost patterns across it were sparse. Its spiritual light shook so badly that a strong gust looked capable of breaking it.
It was still everything she had left.
"You think that pathetic scrap of cold can stop me?"
Aureon laughed.
He lifted one hand almost casually.
A dense golden palm strike crossed the air and slammed into the wall.
Crack!
The barrier exploded into a cloud of white ice.
The remaining force never slowed.
It hit Gwendolyn square in the chest and abdomen.
Her body flew more than a hundred feet through the air and crashed into a pile of jagged boulders.
Her chest caved violently under the impact.
Blood burst from her mouth and soaked the white fabric across her front.
She slid helplessly down the rocks.
Her limbs had gone numb. Cold backlash tore through her meridians, and no matter how hard she tried, her body would no longer rise.
"Gwendolyn!"
Jared's eyes went red.
Pain ripped through him, and he tried to rush toward her despite the damage spreading through his own meridians.
