None of the onlookers' opinions mattered to Bella. Everyone had a different perspective on love, after all.

Hugo was a good man, but she did not love him. On the other hand, while Jack looked like an ordinary guy, he was her first love.

Magdalene and Cynthia were stunned as they watched the scene before them unfold. They had thought that he had only been joking around, but he had gone ahead and confessed as he had said he would.

When they observed Bella's reaction, it became clear that she cared greatly about Jack too. The situation was completely out of their expectations.

The person who was stuck in the most awkward position was undoubtedly Hugo, who was still kneeling on the ground, arms still extended as he offered his bouquet to Bella. He had planned to get up only after Bella told him to, but her eyes were glued to Jack at that moment, and she didn't even spare him a single glance.

Hugo felt as if he had turned into a laughingstock and wished he could dig a hole to hide himself in. It was the first time in his life that he had experienced such aggravation.

While the surrounding students watched the scene before them unfold with surprised expressions, some of them also shot sympathetic looks in Hugo's direction. He was truly caught in the worst situation. It became clear that no matter how handsome or rich a man was, there was no guarantee that he could win the hand of the beauty he had his sights on.

Hugo's friends had also ceased setting off the fireworks as they watched the scene unfold with slackened jaws. They felt as if they were watching a television drama, but the hidden twist was much too ridiculous. They had anticipated various outcomes after Hugo confessed, but they never could have guessed that Jack would make a sudden appearance to throw a wrench into Hugo's plans.

"I looked for you," Jack explained. "I asked Luna, Gigi, and Remy, but they told me that they had lost contact with you."

Bella nodded. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she looked as if she had so many things to say, but didn't know how or where to start.

It was only then that she realized Hugo was still kneeling on the ground. The roses looked vibrant under the glow of the light, a huge contrast to the upset expression that Hugo was wearing on his face.

There were only two words that Bella could possibly say to him. "I'm sorry!" she exclaimed.
