Chapter 826

Third Person’s POV

“And the result?” Lance continued. “Lycan Erasmus recently ordered a massive crackdown on gray-market industries like predatory lending. The Royal Court slapped her with a staggering fine. All the cash she took when she left the pack wasn’t nearly enough to cover it. She had to sell off her last luxury estates just to stay out of a cold prison cell.”

He paused, a cold glint in his eyes.

“What’s worse is that she still owes Luna Sidney ten million plus interest. The second she was kicked out of her pack, Sidney sent debt collectors to hunt her down. She’s completely backed into a corner, which is why she ran to the Center for help.”

Paisley spat on the ground, her scent radiating pure contempt.

“She really is an idiot! She’s flat broke and still had the nerve to be a loan shark? The King not throwing her in a dungeon was an act of mercy, and she couldn’t even manage to keep a low profile. Honestly, she got exactly what she deserved.”

Out of pure curiosity, Adelaide had to ask, “How much exactly did the court fine her?”

Lance stated the number flatly, “One hundred million.”

Paisley choked, her eyes nearly popping out of her head.

“That much?! How much money did she actually put out on the street?”

“She lent our fifty million, and the court ruled a double-forfeit fine,” Lance explained patiently,

“Predatory lending ruins the national economy, and Lycan Erasmus is determined to wipe it out. Jeremy personally oversaw this case, so there was no room for negotiation or favors.”

Caldwell, who had been listening quietly, suddenly let out a sharp laugh.

“The most ironic part is that the Royal investigation hit before she could even collect the interest on those loans. So now, her principal is gone, and she owes a fortune in fines.”

Adelaide took a sharp breath.

“God… so between the lost principal and the fine, she’s out a massive amount of money. She’s officially bankrupt

“Exactly. Why else would she be desperate enough to sell her very last apartment?” Lance added coldly.

“And she still hasn’t paid off the full fine. This case affected the interests of the Blue Abyss Pack, so Jeremy is watching it like a hawk. He has zero pity for her. She’s been calling every old friend in the capital to beg Jeremy for mercy, but he won’t even take her calls.”

Adelaide thought back to Wanda crawling on the floor to pick up those bills-the sheer desperation and greed in her frantic movements.

Her wolf let out a low sigh; Wanda really had hit rock bottom.

But taking her in was a different story ethically.

Wanda had, after all, caused Scarlett’s miscarriage and pushed Sabrina into a frozen lake. In that moment, she had clearly intended to kill.

“I know this is wrong, but…”

Paisley tried to keep a straight face, “Hearing that that poor me’ Sabrina got shoved into a lake actually makes me want to laugh.”

She quickly followed it up with a muttered, “Moon Goddess forgive me, that’s a sin.”

Adelaide’s brow furrowed.

“What I don’t get is how she can still be this stupid. She isn’t a ‘Princess’ anymore, and she never had the respect of her pack anyway. Her mother is locked away forever, her father was executed… what is she still fighting for? Has she just given up on life?”

“If she didn’t want to live, why would she run to the Center for help?” Caldwell pointed our the obvious contradiction.

Adelaide turned to her mate. “Lance, what do

think?”

Lance thought for a moment before speaking.

“There might be more to the story. Von, the Glenyeil butler, might not know everything. But one thing is for sure: Luna Rowena decided Wanda had to go. Maybe the old lady had already caught wind of the loan sharking.”

Adelaide nodded.

“It was probably all those messes stacking up until Rowerza couldn’t take it anymore. Winslow doesn’t have a backbone, Rowena runs that pack. Besides, he never loved Wanda. Their
