Lance glanced over at him with genuine concern in his eyes. “Now that your father’s finally arrived in the capital and your entire family is reunited, it’s all the more important that you take good care of yourself,” he said earnestly.
Caldwell’s expression brightened, a genuine smile spreading across his face. “Ever since I returned to the capital, my grandfather and mother have been doing so much better. And now that my father has joined us, we’re all together again. Seeing their happiness every single day has brought me a sense of peace I hadn’t felt in a long time.”
Though Caldwell wasn’t much of a heavy drinker, he often enjoyed a glass or two in the evenings, claiming it helped him sleep. The stress and anxiety from his family’s troubles had caused him chronic insomnia for months. But now, with everyone reunited, he finally felt he could focus on his own well-being.
As they were wrapping up their drinks, Lance turned his attention to Avery. “Any updates on the Silverlight Pack? I thought you had people keeping tabs on them.”
Avery, who had been quietly monitoring the Silverlight Pack’s activities, immediately straightened up. “They’ve been unusually quiet lately. Most of their members are staying within their own territory, and nothing suspicious has come up.”
Craig joined the conversation, his tone serious. “Alpha Howell is a master strategist. Honestly, he might be more calculating than Germain. The fact that he’s been silent means he’s exercising extreme patience. As for Germain, the only reason he hasn’t made any reckless moves is because Raven is there to advise him and prevent disasters.”
Lance nodded thoughtfully. “You’ve got a point.” Then, as if remembering something, he added, “Speaking of which, what’s the latest on Solanke? We haven’t heard anything about him in a while.”
Caldwell replied, “The medicine was delivered, but there’s no news yet on whether he’ll pull through.”
Craig, who usually stayed out of pack politics, spoke up. “The political situation in the Western Tribe is a complete mess right now. The Lycan Prince has taken control, but half of the senior officials are fiercely opposed to his aggressive policies.”
“And get this,” he continued, “even though he was close to the previous Lycan Prince, this new leader completely rejects the old ways of governance. Solanke was one of the former Prince’s staunchest supporters, so even if he survives, his future looks grim.”
“Man, that old Lycan King really has nine lives, doesn’t he?” Paisley remarked.
