Your Love Is But a Dream (Clara and Wren) novel Chapter 248

Perhaps only by leaving that place and by truly stepping out could time gradually heal all wounds and regrets, allowing everything to be left behind.

Alexander looked at Clara and did not miss the flicker of sadness in her eyes. Without a word, he withdrew his gaze, and neither of them continued the previous conversation.

"Come on. Let's take a walk."

"Alright." Clara quickly composed herself and followed Alexander outside.

They walked along the street, heading forward at a steady pace. As they passed a bridge, they noticed a fork in the road leading to an expanse of barren fields.

At this time of year, Longfield was bleak and colorless, offering little in the way of scenery. They took the side path, walking along the narrow ridge between the fields, chatting as they went.

By the time they reached the riverbank, a sudden gust of wind swept through, bringing a noticeable chill. The sky had darkened. Alexander looked up and realized that at some point, thick clouds had gathered, completely blocking out the sun.

"The weather is changing. Let me take you back."

Clara also felt the drop in temperature and nodded. "Alright."

"Let's go." Alexander took the lead, positioning himself in front of her to shield her from the cold wind.

Watching his gesture, a quiet warmth spread through her chest.

Alexander accompanied her to the hospital entrance but did not go inside.

"You should head in. I won't go any further."

He hesitated for a moment before continuing, "You are being discharged tomorrow. If you need anything, just call me, and I will come pick you up."

"And also, this is for you." Alexander reached into his pocket and extended his hand toward Clara, revealing a set of brand-new car keys in his palm.

She did not want to rely on anyone, not emotionally and not in the tangible reality of life. Because she understood that sooner or later, she would have to live on her own and face everything alone.

If she got used to Alexander's kindness, what would happen when he eventually withdrew it?

That feeling of loss…

She did not want to experience it again.

"Alexander, thank you. But…"

Before she could finish, he had already understood. A brief flicker of disappointment flashed across his eyes.

Straightening up, he kept his expression calm. "Just hold onto it for now. Consider it safekeeping for me. I always misplace things. If I lose the other key, at least I know where to find this one."
