Chapter145

Asultorating sense of despair threatened to drown her

Her hands and feet were bound by the weight of her soaked clothing leasing Clara completely drained of strength. Her consciousness grew hazy and scattered as her body sank deeper and deeper into the icy abyss

At that moment, a car screeched to a stop. Before it had even come to a halt, a dark figure shot out of the vehicle

Seeing Clara vanishing beneath the surface, When didn’t hesitate Without a second thought, he dove into the freezing water, swimming toward her with all the speed he could

muster

As her figure disappeared below, he plunged into the frigid water, his eyes desperately scanning the dark, murky depths for any trace of her

The pond at night was shrouded in complete darkness. There was no light and visibility. Finding someone under such conditions seemed impossible

But Wren couldn’t afford to waste a single second. He surfaced briefly for air before diving back to the freezing depths, determined to find Clara

Finally, his hand brushed against hers. In that moment, it felt as though he had grasped something irreplaceable. He pulled her into his arms, clutching her tightly, and began swimming toward the shore with all the strength he had left

The edges of the pond were coated with a thin layer of ice. The freezing water bit into his skin, piercing his very bones. Wren’s strength was almost entirely depleted, but he refused to let go of Clara’s hand. He had only one thoughtshe had to live

John had already parked the car and rushed to the edge of the pond. He crouched down anxiously, his eyes fixed on the two figures in the water

As Wren neared the shore, John leaned forward, extending his hand. Mr. Zachman, let me pell you up

Take her first,Wren rasped, his voice strained as he pushed Clara toward John

John hesitated for a moment, worry etched across his face. He had seen everything He knew Wren was nearing his limit. The frigid pond water was so cold that it pierced to the bone. Even dipping a hand in for a few seconds would leave it numb, let alone submerging one’s entire body for so long

But John didn’t dare disobey. Without delay, he carefully grabbed Clara and litted her onto the shore as gently as possible

He laid her down on the ground and was about to turn back to help Wren when he saw Wren already pulling himself out of the water

Wren collapsed to his knees beside dara, his body trembling uncontrollably

Clara was completely unresponsive. Her face was deathly pale and tinged with faint blue

When felt as though his heart had stopped. Terror gripped him, suffocating and unrelenting

John, sering Clara’s teless state, panicked. She’s drowned! We need to perform emergency first aid immediately!”

Before John could finish speaking, Wren was already moving. His trembling bands checked her condition before he began administering CPR. Alternating between chest compressions and mouthtomouth resuscitation, he worked methodically

His technique was precise, every motion practiced and deliberate. He had learned these lifesaving skills in the past, preparing

Although his hands were shaking uncontrollably, each movement was steady and exact

In that moment, nothing else mattered to Wren. The only thing he wantedthe only thing he begged forwas for her to survive. As long as she lived, nothing else muttered

He leaned down to administer another round of CPR. Just as his lips neared hers, Clara suddenly twitched and coughed violently, expelling a large mouthful of water. Slowly, her eyes fluttered open

Cara? When’s voice quivered with uncontrollable emotion

The mere two minutes that had passed felt like an eternity. Every second had dragged on, as if time itself had frozen

He stared at her unblinkingly, terrified that her awakening was nothing more than a cruel illusion

Clara heard a familiar voice echo in her ears, but her vision was clouded, as though shrouded by a layer of mist. She could make out a figure in front of her, but her mind couldn’t piece together who it was

She tried to open her mouth to speak, but instead, she coughed up another mouthful of icy water

Wren instinctively reached out to support her, but before his hand could steady her, Clara’s body went limp, and she tainted once again

Clara? Clara!Wren’s blood turned to ice in an instant. His face drained of color, pale as the snow around them

He reached out with trembling hands to check her pulse. Feeling the faint, steady rhythm beneath his fingertips, he let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. The tight grip of panic on his chest eased slightly

To the hospital,Wren commanded, his voice filled with urgency and resolve
