Your Love Is But a Dream (Clara and Wren) novel Chapter 13

The middle-aged man panicked. "What do we have to do with you losing your purse? We're in a rush to get off the bus. Get out of the way already."

Most of the passengers had gotten off the bus. The rest were stuck behind Clara and the middle-aged man.

As soon as the man said that, the people behind them voiced out in annoyance, too, "That's right. Just talk it out after getting off the bus. You're wasting everyone's time by blocking the way."

"Move aside already. You can take your argument outside the bus!"

Seeing the man's smug expression, Clara took a deep breath to calm herself. She knew she should not get into a fight with someone in an unfamiliar place.

However, she needed to get the purse back because most of her cash and cards were in it.

Pointing at the bus' surveillance camera, Clara warned, "There's a camera here. We'll find out if you're the one who did it once we check it. Return it, or we'll continue this conversation at the police station.

The man only stole her purse because he thought he was a weak and naive woman who was new to the town. He never expected her to be so determined.

However, he was familiar with the process. They needed to go to the main bus station to check the footage.

"Don't accuse without evidence, young lady. Show me your evidence or get out of the way. Don't make me take action," he threatened.

Clara realized no one on the bus was willing to help her. Thus, she turned to Alexander, thinking he must have seen something that made him warn her. However, he seemed uninterested and annoyed.

Clara wondered if she should get Alexander involved. After all, it was her matter. He had already done her a huge favor by warning her.

"I'm going to call the police, then," said Clara decidedly, taking her phone out to make the call. When the middle-aged man saw she was being serious, he scowled and grabbed her wrist, wanting to slap her.

Clara could not dodge the attack under the man's tight grip. Just as the man's hand was about to land on her face, Alexander finally lost his patience.

He stepped forward and snatched the man's arm.

"Let go. What kind of man hits a woman? Give it back to her!" Alexander growled, staring at the man with a disgusted gaze.

The man was stunned beyond words. Before he realized what had happened, he was taken away.

Clara got off the bus as well. When she saw Alexander collecting his suitcase, she stepped forward to thank him. However, the police got to him first.

"Please come with us to take a statement," the police said.

Alexander frowned, clearly having no intention of going. He thought it was going to be troublesome.

Regardless, he did not say it out loud. After putting the pickpocket in the car, the policeman stood beside the car and waited for both Alexander and Clara to get in.

Alexander was the only person who witnessed the man performing his crimes. On top of that, he was the one who pointed it out. Thus, the policeman did not think Alexander would refuse.

The situation remained at a standstill for a few seconds. Seeing the police had no intention of leaving, Alexander had no choice but to get into the car and go to the police station with Clara.
