Your Love Is But a Dream (Clara and Wren) novel Chapter 122

Ivy and Angie spent the whole morning shopping and bought many things. After loading everything into the car, they noticed it was almost noon and decided to have lunch at a nearby restaurant.

They were guided to their table by a server and were about to sit down when Ivy suddenly heard familiar voices coming from the booth ahead. She could not see who they were because of the partition, but their words made her expression change instantly.

"You really missed out on a great show by not attending the Zachman family's engagement party a few days ago."

"Didn't Ivy use to act all high and mighty in front of us? She was always bragging about how much Wren—the Zachman family heir—cared for her and loved her. Well, guess what—"

The speaker deliberately paused in the middle of her sentence, but the disdain and mockery in her voice were palpable.

"Penny, stop keeping us in suspense. Tell us already!" another female voice urged.

Penny Cooper continued in a mocking tone, "Wren didn't even show up at the engagement party! And something else happened, too.

"When Mr. Zachman was about to announce Wren and Ivy's engagement, Mrs. Zachman Senior suddenly arrived and called it off in front of everyone! She even declared that Ivy would never be allowed into the Zachman family unless it was over her dead body."

"Oh, my God! I can't believe such a thing happened!"

Penny sneered condescendingly. "Exactly! It's hilarious. Let's see what Ivy has to brag about now. She should know her place.

"Did she really think she could marry into a wealthy family with her shameless mother's influence? It's not that simple!"

"If you ask me, she probably made up everything she said about Wren liking her and treating her well!"

The group burst into laughter, completely unaware that the very person they were gossiping about was sitting in the booth next to them.

Ivy had intended to come out for a little breather. The luxury shopping spree in the morning had finally lifted her spirits, but now…

She clenched her fists, and her gaze grew so dark that she looked like she could kill someone.

Although she had anticipated that Martha's actions at the engagement party would affect her somewhat, hearing the ridicule still almost made her snap. She barely resisted the urge to rush over and tear at the bitches' mouths.

If she and Wren had successfully gotten engaged, would these bitches dare to treat her like this? Had they forgotten how they used to flatter her?

Ivy felt a surge of rage crashing within her, but she couldn't let it out. She was both furious and resentful.
