Your Guise Is Slipping, Miss Pearl (Pearl and Richard) novel Chapter 1353

"Mom, how did things go with Dad?"

Pearl was enlightened when she heard that. Darius left early just to send Luther away and give Richard a chance to be alone with her.

"He's not your Dad yet."

Darius looked disappointed, his eyes reminding her of Richard.

Pearl noticed the resemblance and tousled his fluffy hair. "Do you like this dad?"

Darius suddenly looked wide awake and nodded. "I've really wanted a dad. When I saw him today, he felt familiar. He's different from Mister Luther. And you don't like Mister Luther either. When can I have a dad?"

Darius sounded grown-up as he sighed, like he was let down. "It's okay if I'm alone, but you're a girl. It's tough for you out there by yourself. It would be better if you lived with Dad instead of just me. I can tell he likes you a lot. Otherwise, he wouldn't have asked me to help him—"

Darius quickly covered his mouth. Oops. He'd said too much.

Pearl's worry turned to curiosity. "What did you say? What did he ask you to help him with?"

Darius tried to run, but Pearl caught his collar, stopping him. "Tell me, or else you're not going to bed."

Pearl looked very serious. Darius, feeling trapped, pleaded, "Mom, I have to go to school tomorrow. I should be sleeping now."

Darius thought hard, scrunched up his nose, and shook his head. "No, he didn't promise anything."

Pearl knew her son was usually sharp. But under Richard's influence, he seemed lost and naive, which made her sigh. "You're too trusting. Next time, make sure you get something in return. If not, it's a bad deal."

Darius nodded vigorously. "Got it. He's not that great anyway. I think we should forget it. I don't want him as my dad."

Pearl was flabbergasted.

"Mom, what do you think about Mister Luther?"
