06 - Chapter Six - Leno's Point Of View.
Even a week after the attack Diego was still angry about it. The bruises were gone and so was the cut. But to him, that didn't matter. It was weird for him to spend even a little time with me, so to have him spending every day around me made me nervous and on edge for no reason. However, he did let me help him with the types of paperwork that Dakota had taught me. Diego was going through the mail when I heard him growl and his fist hit the top of the desk.
"What's wrong Diego?"
He all but threw the paper at me. It was addressed to him and the paper was hand written.
Dear Beta Diego,
It has been brought to our attention you are withholding from mating with your mate, the council will now be intervening. You have less than a month to mate with your mate, Leno before the council strips you of your beta title for not being appropriate and a proper role model for younger and maturating wolves.
With moon goddess blessings,
The Council.
Forced mating by the Council was the only thing they taught us in training and we all thought that was something that was used to scare us into not rejecting our mates, apparently not. Diego was not handling the news well. He was up walking around the room, his hand on his chin, he was muttering about how he could appeal this order and not lose his position. I mean the council did have a very good point, how could we teach the younger wolves that they need their mates and how much a mate means when their own beta isn't adhering to the lessons taught.
"We are going to the council tomorrow."
I pinched between my eyes and then spoke softly.
"I agree with the Council."
Diego did a complete one-eighty and looked at me, the snarl rolling off his lips. He slowly walked forward. He got right in my face, his scent filling my senses. It was moments like this where I wanted to grab him and just take deep breaths of his scent. Until I remembered he wasn't all fond of me.
"Great I'll go with you."
"No, you won't. I'm going by myself. You want to appeal to the council, you will do it on your own time, I'm fine with the order."
"Of course you are, you are a fucking council baby. Your father asks and you do, you aim to please him."
That struck a nerve deep in me. My hand drew back and cascaded across his cheek. I didn't even feel bad for hitting him either. He deserved it for what he dared to say about me.
"Don't you ever speak about me in that manner again."
I took my cup of hot chocolate and stomped to my room, slamming the remains of the door. I had more than my fair share of this stupid bullshit lately. If he listened like he was supposed to he wouldn't even have this problem, but he always seemed to have one reason or another why he couldn't mate me. Honestly, I was so far from okay with him always saying I was the reason we had not mated. I wasn't going to be blamed for any of his problems or issues anymore, any of his problems were his own, plain and simple.
