The monster’s face hardened the moment he heard it. Jaw clenched like stone as he slowly turned toward the approaching footsteps.
“Are you–Oh,” Grayson paused. “Looks like a guest is intrigued.”
My knees suddenly wobbled. Surely, the monster wouldn’t take offense at my boss relating to me, right? Of course, he’s my boss.
My stalker didn’t say a word and just simply stared at Grayson who was focused more on me.
“Ms. Vlyrissa reached out to me. Congratulations, Zerali. She wants you to make a second dress for her. One to be worn on that day.”
A small flame of excitement burnt in me. “Thank you, s-”
“Do you always address your staff by their first names?” The monster asked coldly. “Sounds unprofessional to me.”
And just like that, the flame flickered and died.
“Excuse me?” Grayson arched a brow, shooting him a cloudy–eyed glance.
“Don’t make me think I’m talking to someone who needs everything explained as a child.”
What the hell!?
My lips parted in shock. This asshole was going to make me lose my job!
I moved to intervene. “Sir-”
“Who the hell are you?” Grayson was confused and clearly offended “And what makes you think you can dictate how I treat my staff?”
The asshole casually scoffed. “I had no idea asking questions is your version of dictation. Is this how you run business, Mr. Knightley? No wonder Fable and Fabric is stuck in the past, propped up by the decomposing limbs of your parents‘ success..”
Jesus Fucking Christ! My blood ran cold.
Mr. Knightley’s face flushed with indignation.
Okay. Now, I needed to do something.
“Can I have a word with you, please?” I tried to sound as calm as possible despite the rage burning in my chest, threatening to explode at the monster.
Grayson blinked at me. “Do you know this man?”
Shit. I just made it seem like I did.
“I uh…” I looked between both of them. “I wouldn’t really say I know him.” I could feel the monster’s gaze slash into me but I kept my eyes forward. “It’s complicated, sir. Please, I’ll only be a minute.”

Glaring at the monster, I walked away, expecting him to follow. If I had to leave him there for one more minute, there was no guarantee one of them would make it out alive.

He followed me out of the hall and I didn’t stop walking until we reached the parking lot which looked private enough.
“What the hell are you doing? That’s my boss!” I spun around, doing all I could not to yell at him.
There could be someone in the dark somewhere.
“The fuck do I care?”
“Well, you should care! Because your sick attitude might cost me my job!”
“If it hasn’t already. You’re quitting, Rali. I hate him.”
My mind reeled. Hold on.
“What?” I blinked hard. “No! You’re not doing that! Grayson Knightley has been nothing but nice to me. I’m not quitting my dream job because you’ve decided to go caveman, asshole!”
“Will you quit when I kill him, then?”
I froze, the words landing like steel claws across my stone.
My voice rose with tremor and rage. “You will not!” I shoved him in the chest. “I swear to God, if you lay one hand on him, I’ll never forgive you. Never!”
Something cold flickered in his eyes. In one swift move, he seized my wrist and slammed me against the wall. I gasped as the impact stole air from my lungs.
Suddenly, it dawned on me. This place was ‘private‘. Private enough for him to hurt me.
His furious gaze instilled a genuine fear for my safety. But when he stared longer, his expression melted into something warm and tender, as if a switch had been flipped.”
“Fuck, you’re gorgeous,” he murmured, his tone crafting a melody that danced like ice along my spine.
His gaze roamed over me like a thief mapping out every inch of what he planned to steal–from my eyes, to the bridge of my nose, then my lips.
His gaze didn’t leave my lips, and I felt my heart thumping against my ribcage.
He stared at my lips like he was contemplating a thought. And before I knew it, he kissed me.
My breath crashed in my throat, my entire body jerking in response.
He released my wrist only to anchor both hands around my waist, pulling me so tightly against him I thought my body might dissolve into his. He pressed me deeper into the wall, as if he could bury me there and hide me from every other man’s gaze.
I pushed at his chest, but my willpower was melting, liquefying under the weight of his mouth, his hands, his fire.
His lips on mine? Holy hell, it was my first kiss, and it was nothing like Veronica and Ruby described. It was more.
He kissed like he’d been holding his breath for years and I was his first inhale..
He captured my tongue between his lips, suckling on it passionately in a ceaseless rhythm that mirrored the pulse of my racing heart. His hands remained around my hips with a desperation that terrified and thrilled me.
