Wrong Ride, Right Lover novel Chapter 272

Mandy explained, “There were some complications at work so he might not be coming back tonight.”

“Where’s Miss Xander?” Mandy’s eyes roamed around the house, trying to spot the woman.

Mrs. Lawson glanced at the staircase leading upstairs. Monique was likely still resting. “Miss Xander is resting upstairs. I’ll pass it to her tomorrow.”

“Alright. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave. There’s more to do at the office,” Mandy said with a smile.

“Remind the Young Master to rest when he has to! Drive safe!” Mrs. Lawson called out.

Chairman Moore was a headstrong man who listened to no one, let alone his secretary. “Bye, Mrs. Lawson!”

Mrs. Lawson wondered why Monique left her handbag and phone in the office. Was that why she walked home? She had so many questions, yet so little answers.

She placed the items aside. Some moments later, Monique came down with Angel in her arms.

“Mrs. Lawson, I’m hungry.” Angel pouted at the older woman, puppy dog eyes at maximum level.

Mrs. Lawson was not immune to the little girl’s cuteness. “I’ve prepared a bunch of yummy food in the kitchen. Let’s feed that tummy of yours.”

She opened her arms to beckon the child. “Come here, your mother wants to eat too.”

Angel obediently went to Mrs. Lawson. Monique was grateful for the love and care she received from the older woman.

“Thank you, Mrs. Lawson.”

“Oh, hush. I told you to treat this place as your own home. We’re one family,” the older woman said with a kind smile.

Monique’s eyes welled up with tears—she was a tad emotional these days.

Was the phone call in the afternoon work-related? Was that why he left her stranded? Was he too occupied that he did not notice her absence in the car?

Was this him being considerate?

Or was all of this intentional?

The scar of an open wound would always serve as a reminder of the pain from the past. Monique had always doubted the sincerity of Henry’s interest, which was why plans for escape were never far from her mind.

Nevertheless, she was glad to see her old handbag and phone.

The enigmatic smile on Monique’s face provided Mrs. Lawson with no clues as to what happened between the young master and her. The older woman said, “I was wondering why you were on foot. Why don’t you memorize the landline number. If you run into any trouble, you can call home.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Lawson.” Monique nodded and gave her a sweet smile. “The walk was good exercise for me.”
