Wrong Ride, Right Lover novel Chapter 168

How could Monique forget about yesterday? The bruises on her body had yet to heal. Luckily, the fall weather allowed for long sleeves, which shielded the purple and black patches on her skin.

The mention of yesterday irked her. “You… You…”

‘Bastard, savage, pervert.’

The string of curses went on and on in her mind, but she dared not speak them out loud.

The image of Monique gritting her teeth in anger pleased Henry Moore to no end. This call had brightened his day significantly.

Amusement danced across his features as he asked lazily, “What did you want?”

Monique tempered her rage and said, “I wasn’t the one who called.”

In another way, she was saying she would never contact him.

Henry’s dark eyes narrowed. She was one stubborn woman.

“You sure?”

Monique could sense the threat in his voice. She explained, “Angel wanted me to call you.”

“You still dialed my number,” Henry stated matter-of-factly, the haughtiness in his tone unmistakable.

Monique rolled her eyes in exasperation. The man was tone deaf.

The call was made not of her own volition, but because of her daughter’s insistence.

She gave up on the debate.

“Really? I believe you’re doing it willingly.”

The man was incorrigible, narcissistic, and arrogant. Monique did not bother to argue her case. “Yes, yes, it’s all my doing.”

Their childish banter went on. As they talked, Henry asked about Monique’s day at her old place.

She gave a brief summary, but avoided the topic of her matchmade date.

Before they knew it, the call had gone on for more than an hour. Monique’s replies got shorter and shorter.

Despite the woman’s obvious fatigue, Henry did not hang up. When he finished his sentence, there was no response from the other side. All he heard was the woman’s soft breathing.

After a minute of silence, Henry ended the call and huffed in annoyance. “You pig! Can’t believe you fell asleep while I was talking to you.”
