Yvonne checked out the food delivered. Each item looked more decadent than the last. She could not help but lick her lips in anticipation and gave her mother a knowing look.
After selecting one of the appetizing cakes, Yvonne settled down on the living room couch to watch some television.
She took a bite of the cake and her bad mood instantly dissipated. The dessert was as delicious as it looked.
Siobhan took Yvonne’s cue and changed tack. “Yvonne’s words were a bit rash but it isn’t without sense. Monique has a daughter and can’t be doing this without any thought for her child’s future. The biological father hasn’t turned up yet and after this, I doubt he ever will. We should find her a good man to marry.”
Zephyrus had similar concerns for Monique. Due to the initial arguments, he did not manage to ask her about the kidnapping and whether she was injured. Perhaps he should look into finding a suitable suitor for her while she was home.
Of course, these things required planning and Zephyrus was a busy man. “It’s a bit short notice, and I’m not aware of any bachelors that might suit Monique.
“Although she has a child, she’s still young, beautiful, and smart. I won’t have her marrying a random bloke on the street.”
This turn of events was welcomed by Siobhan. “Oh, for sure! I’ve heard Mrs. Channing speak of a distant relative who’s a few years older than Yvonne. Has a good position in a bank. I’ll get more info when I see her again.”
Mrs. Channing was a neighbor from a few streets down. She was a plump and easygoing woman whom Zephyrus liked. “Okay, I’ll let you handle this then.”
He believed his wife meant well despite her sharp tongue.
Zephyrus’s order was like a stab to her heart.
Siobhan tried to argue her case. “We can’t return something that was gifted.”
“I’m putting my foot down on this,” the man said. Without waiting for the women’s response, he went upstairs.
Regardless of the reason behind those gifts, Zephyrus Xander refused to take advantage of Monique’s situation.
As for the food, there was no way they could send it back without risking spoilage. Therefore, he allowed the family to gorge themselves.
