Wrong Ride, Right Lover novel Chapter 156

Zephyrus frowned at his daughter. “You keep your mouth shut!”

He did not want Monique to feel unwelcome. The woman ran away from home and stayed away for five years after the pregnancy incident. He did not want to lose his niece again. What if she left and never came back?

Zephyrus would have disappointed his late father.

“Daddy!” Yvonne shrieked. Tears were threatening to flow as she stomped her foot angrily.

Her father was being biased as usual. Yvonne hated that she was always reprimanded because of Monique.

Her fingers clenched tightly as she dwelled on her thoughts. Tears of anger and hate streamed down her cheeks.

Siobhan could not stand watching her daughter upset. She turned to her husband and said, “What Yvonne said is the truth. If she wasn’t selling her body, how could she afford these?”

The luxury items were tempting to Siobhan but she decided to side with her own daughter.

The frown on Zephyrus’s forehead deepened. He believed it was just a misunderstanding among the women in the family and tried to explain, “Monique said these are gifts from her new employer. The employer is rich and generous. You heard the delivery man, this was ordered by the employer's family.”

Siobhan was enraged to see her husband defending that useless woman despite the mounting evidence.

It was clear Monique was sleeping with someone, and yet Yvonne was the one being scolded.

If the vile words were from strangers, Monique would have brushed them off but these people were her family. Even the strongest heart would falter under the constant barrage of criticisms and insults.

Her nails bit into her palm but the pain was dull compared to the ache in her heart.

“Mommy, the fruits are too heavy. Can you help me?” a young voice called out from the kitchen. Angel’s request for help broke the awkward tension in the room.

She was struggling to carry a basket of fruits and it was showing on her scrunched up face.

The fruits were more than they needed, Zephyrus realized, and definitely more than what Angel could carry on her own.
