Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? novel Chapter 1075

Outside the front gate.

Rebecca White clutched her phone, feeling utterly bewildered.

No answer to her calls, no reply to her messages... Was Francis really set on keeping her from seeing James?

A wave of panic washed over Rebecca.

She had known him for so long, perhaps lulled by his usual gentle demeanor, that she had forgotten just how much of a powerhouse he was in Sunhaven. Compared to him, her own influence was like a gnat trying to move a mountain.

Previously, he was kind to her because he chose to be. But if he decided to be ruthless, manipulating her would be a piece of cake.

Rebecca stared at the firmly closed gate, fear creeping in.

Two hours later.

Around the time Rebecca usually finished her 'day'.

The locked gate finally stirred. After a slight sound, it opened from the inside.

Francis emerged, wearing a crisp white shirt and impeccably pressed trousers, striding out with an air of authority.

His eyes immediately landed on Rebecca sitting across the street on the curb.

Rebecca's head snapped up.

Those two hours of waiting felt like an eternity to her.

The moment she saw Francis, tears welled up in her eyes, quickly dampening her lashes.

She stood up, struggling to hold back her tears, her voice choked with emotion, "Mr. Johnson..."

Francis felt a twinge of irritation at the sound of his formal title.

He raised an eyebrow, "Still here? Something you need?"

Rebecca hesitated, unsure if he was genuinely asking or just toying with her. Regardless, even if he was playing games, she was powerless.

She had to swallow her pride to see James.

Rebecca clenched her fists, speaking quietly, "My divorce from Eddy is finalized. I have no intentions of getting back with him."

"Alright."

She thought about stepping back, but fear of upsetting him further kept her rooted.

Francis gently touched her cheek, brushing his fingers over the corner of her eye. "Why the tears?"

He knew exactly why.

She was scared of him.

Seeing her so vulnerable, like a fragile flower after a storm, Francis softened, his tone as gentle as ever.

"You were so stubborn before; I had no choice but to 'scare' you a little. It's for your own good, so you don't fall for his tricks again. Understand?"

Rebecca didn't respond, just watched him silently, allowing him to proceed as he wished.

"There, no more tears."

Francis murmured soothingly as he bent down, his voice growing even gentler.

Rebecca's bangs fell forward, and Francis lifted a hand, intending to tuck them behind her ear.
