Whispers of betrayal (Selena and Ryan) novel Chapter 126

Chapter 126

Anastasia held the bank card in her hand and fell silent for a long time. “Did it delay your work?”

Hearing that, Jason shook his head. “The dessert shop wasn’t particularly busy today.”

“Was it tough?” Anastasia asked in a soft voice.

Once again, Jason shook his head.

Nonetheless, Anastasia could tell that the hair on his forehead had been soaked in sweat.

He must have been rushing to deliver food to customers if he was drenched in sweat even on such a chilly day.

“You should go back soon,” Anastasia assured Jason with a smile.

“After the banquet is over, I’ll come pick you up.” Jason looked at Anastasia with a determined gaze.

He would never let Alastor bully Anastasia.

need…”

However, Anastasia shook her head. “No need…”

Those people at the banquet could easily crush them, the lower-class members of society.

Anastasia also feared that Alastor might go crazy and harm Jason.

“Wait for me. I will come and pick you up later.” Jason moved his scooter forward. The scooter used for delivery looked incongruous with his attractive appearance.

When Anastasia saw that, she felt like laughing.

“Don’t laugh. This scooter is environmentally friendly.” Jason also laughed when he saw Anastasia laughing.

Anastasia nodded while holding back her laughter. “Okay. Put your helmet on. Don’t cause trouble for the traffic police.”

Jason felt somewhat helpless. “Anastasia, you used to treat me like a stray and now you treat me like a child?”

“I treat you as my younger brother.” The smile on Anastasia’s face faded as she gave Jason a serious look. “The only person I consider family is you.”

Jason’s fingers tightened around the helmet strap. He did not say anything.

He hated the term “younger brother.”

“Besides, my art exhibition is about to start. I’m not going to the banquet for Alastor. I’m doing it for myself.” After all, public opinion had greatly harmed Anastasia’s reputation.

Truth be told, Anastasia was worried that no one would show up to her art exhibition. That would be embarrassing.

“If you say so…” Kimberly sighed and drove away with Anastasia.

“Annie, are you living at Jason’s place now?” Kimberly asked in a low voice. “I think it would be best if you and Jason tried to keep a low profile. All those comments about Jason on the internet…”

Anastasia smiled as she looked at Kimberly. “I simply think of Jason as a member of my family.”

“I am not saying Jason is bad, Annie. It is just…” Kimberly appeared anxious.

In Anastasia’s memory, Kimberly was not the type to casually gossip about others behind their backs. Anastasia also knew that Kimberly wasn’t intentionally speaking ill of Jason. She probably just did not want Anastasia to be with Jason.

“I just think Alastor is a better choice than Jason. After all, Alastor-”

“Kim, Alastor, and I can never get back together again, and it is not just because he cheated,” Anastasia interrupted Kimberly. “Why are you suddenly speaking up for Alastor today? Did he say anything to you?”

Kimberly took a deep breath and replied, “He didn’t. It’s just that Alastor has a much higher social status than we do. If you and Jason do not keep your distance from one another, Alastor will definitely go after Jason. Jason is only a worker.”
