She had spent all this effort specifically to get the Everhart family to bail her out.
If she was willing to turn herself in, why would she be begging here in the first place?
Deep resentment toward Amanda boiled up inside Amelia.
After decades of friendship, she couldn't even ask for one tiny favor? Making this go away would be a walk in the park for the Everhart family!
Amanda held her friend's hand, asking gently, "Are you upset with me?"
Amelia lowered her head, her expression souring. "I don't want to turn myself in, and I refuse to go to prison. I'd become the laughingstock of our entire circle. I can't live like that."
The humiliation would be worse than death.
"But the Langstons aren't going to settle with you. That makes things very complicated."
"I know. I tried talking to Lemira, but you saw it yourself—that little bitch has absolutely zero mercy."
Amelia despised the Langston family to her core.
Back then, Lemira's parents had stubbornly fought the Sinclairs for a massive bid. It was only when they ended up dead that her family secured the contract, saving them from bankruptcy and granting them years of luxury.
But now that Lemira was grown, she was actually coming back for revenge, actively destroying the Sinclairs!
The Langstons were practically her natural enemies.
Amanda let out a sigh. "That's why turning yourself in is the best option. Let a judge decide. I believe you didn't intentionally order a hit on her parents, so the sentence shouldn't be too severe."
Amelia forced a bitter, trembling smile as tears streamed down her face.
But inside, her heart turned to ice. So, playing the sympathy card with Amanda was officially a dead end.
If her so-called best friend refused to save her, then she couldn't be blamed for what happened next.
No one was reliable. When the walls closed in, you could only depend on yourself.
Amanda naturally noticed the shift in her friend's demeanor. She understood that a wealthy socialite who had lived in luxury for decades wouldn't want to rot in a cell.
But if you committed a crime, how could you just run from the consequences?
"Mom, now is not the time for ancient history. We need to figure out how to handle this. The Langstons are going to file a police report any day now. Once it goes public, the Sinclair family will be financially ruined."
After all the recent chaos, Sophia finally realized the Sinclairs were on the brink of total collapse.
Amelia looked sharply at her daughter. "That's exactly why you need to lock down a powerful husband. If they throw their weight behind us, the Sinclair family won't fall."
Sophia fell silent.
Amelia scoffed. "And forget about Orion Everhart. He despises you, and the Everhart family will never allow you to marry him."
A flash of sheer hatred crossed Sophia's face. "Why? How am I any worse than Lemira?"
"Darling, we just have terrible luck. I had the chance to join the Everhart family, and I lost it. Now you had the perfect shot, and some little slut stole it from you."
Amelia was just as furious. "But don't worry. I won't let our family burn. I fixed our problems back then, and I'll do it again now."
Mother and daughter exchanged a dark look, both filled with desperate resolve.
Just then, one of Amelia's subordinates hurried over. "Ma'am, we've located Evelina Sterling."
