When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 785

Lemira had the butler place her parents' memorial photographs in the most prominent spot.

“Lemmy, what are you doing?”

She turned to face the Langston family. “Can’t you see? I’m honoring Mom and Dad—telling them that, after so many years in the dark, we finally know the truth about that car accident.”

Lucian looked visibly uneasy, a hint of guilt in his expression.

Asher lowered his gaze, unable to meet the eyes in the black-and-white portraits, a trace of shame crossing his face.

Evander glanced at the somber photos and immediately lost all of his former bravado.

An uneasy silence fell across the room.

Lighting three sticks of incense, Lemira gazed at the images of her young parents. Her voice grew gentler. “Mom, Dad, are you watching from above? We’re finally not being toyed with anymore—and don’t worry, I swear your deaths will be avenged.”

After she finished speaking, she turned back to the Langston family.

In a slow, deliberate tone, she said, “Let’s settle Evelina’s matter now—right here in front of Mom and Dad. Evander, you start.”

Evander, so righteous only moments ago, grew noticeably timid.

After all, with their parents looking on—even if only in spirit—he didn’t dare speak carelessly.

Lemira’s stare was cold and unyielding. “What’s the matter? Weren’t you full of ideas a minute ago?”

Evander stared at the floor, unable to answer.

Seeing his silence, Evelina hurriedly clung to Evander’s hand, sobbing, “Evander, I don’t want to go to jail!”

The evidence against Evelina was overwhelming, and unless the Langston family chose not to pursue it, denial was pointless.

Now, Lemira had even brought out the deceased’s photographs as leverage against the family.

It was infuriating.

Evander was torn by Evelina’s pleas. “Given what you’ve done, how am I supposed to help you? You haven’t shared anything useful.”
