Lucian steadied Asher. "Asher, just try to calm down. Don’t lose your head."
"How am I supposed to calm down? Tell me, how?"
Asher was terrified that he’d really made a terrible mistake. Would that mean he’d been a joke all these years?
He was scared—truly scared—for the first time in his life.
At that moment, Evander entered in his wheelchair, his face deathly pale.
He stared at Asher. "Asher, do you really believe what Lemira said?"
"At least I know Lemira wouldn't lie about something to do with our parents."
Asher didn’t completely believe Lemira either, but he was sure she wouldn’t lie about something this serious.
But what he couldn’t accept was—why did Lemira have to say all this today?
Why couldn’t she have told him earlier?
Why didn’t he get to know before, so he wouldn’t have made so many mistakes?
"But Asher, don’t you think it’s strange? It’s been so many years. How could Lemira possibly have found out the truth?"
Lucian looked over at Evander. "Did you forget how close Lemmy is with the Everhart heir?"
On her own, Lemira probably never could have pulled this off.
But with the Everhart heir backing her, getting to the bottom of these things becomes much easier.
After hearing that, whatever slim hope Asher clung to was crushed.
Of course—if Orion Everhart was involved, that meant what Lemira uncovered was probably true.
Evelina’s father was really involved in the car crash!
If not, why would he still be alive, but hiding for so many years, never daring to show his face?
Evander’s expression was cold. "Asher, I just saw Lemira go out. You’d better follow her and see what she’s up to. I don’t trust her for a second."
He absolutely hated Lemira—but he wanted to avenge their parents too.
Lucian patted Evander’s shoulder. "No matter how much the three of us argue, at least when it comes to what happened to our parents, we’re all on the same side."
"Don’t worry, Lucian. I’m not that foolish."
Evander was still simmering with anger.
Evelina had looked down on him so much—it didn’t matter. He would wait until she had lost everything. Then, let her come back to beg him on her knees!
Asher rushed out with Lucian and saw Lemira just getting into a taxi and pulling away.
As Lucian started the car, he asked, "Asher, if you really manage to catch Evelina’s father, what are you going to do?"
Asher’s eyes were locked on the taxi up ahead, his gaze murderous and cold.
He didn’t answer, as if he hadn’t even heard the question.
In that moment, his heart was like a city in ruins, swept clean by a tidal wave—nothing but devastation left behind.
