Evander glared at Lemira. "You're just enjoying the show. You'll get what's coming to you."
"It can't be worse than the karma of being cheated on."
Lemira's tongue was as sharp as a viper's. Evander was fuming. "Do you think you'll gain anything from Eve's humiliation?"
"At least I'll get some satisfaction. And after all, being happy is the most important thing in life."
"Lemira, you just wait!"
Evander couldn't win an argument with her. If Evelina weren't unconscious, he would have taught Lemira a lesson.
Lemira watched the Langstons leave, her expression turning colder.
Good, now Evelina was cornered.
She'd like to see how the mastermind behind all this would use Evelina to sabotage the AI project now!
But the commotion had cast a pall over the party.
Mrs. Amelia stepped forward. "Alright, everything's settled. Let's all enjoy the entertainment Mrs. Waverly has prepared for us."
With her smoothing things over, Mrs. Waverly's expression softened considerably.
The guests were polite enough to play along, but they were all whispering about what had just happened.
Mrs. Waverly, her face grim, pulled Stella into the main hall and raised her hand to slap her.
But before she could, Lemira caught her wrist.
She looked at Mrs. Waverly and said, "Stella is the birthday girl today. If you slap her and leave a mark, it wouldn't look good if word got out, would it?"
"Who do you think you are? This is a Waverly family matter. Don't think I don't know you were behind what just happened."
Even if Mrs. Waverly hadn't figured it out before, seeing the outcome made it all clear.
Stella wanted to break up with Asher, and she hadn't allowed it, so they orchestrated this little drama at the party.
Now that the Langstons were completely disgraced, she couldn't force Stella to stay with Asher without inviting gossip.
Stella stepped in front of Lemira. "It was my idea. She was just helping me."
"Are you a fool? Lemira has always been at odds with her family. She's ruthless enough to go after her own brother. Aren't you afraid she'll turn on you too?"
Lemira saw Mrs. Amelia, Mrs. Grace Draven, and Mrs. Waverly approaching.
But it seemed Mrs. Amanda and Sophia weren't with them.
Mrs. Amelia suddenly spoke up. "Ms. Langston, after such a major incident with your family today, you're still at the party? Shouldn't you be at the hospital?"
Mrs. Grace Draven added with a sneer, "That's right. If I were a Langston, I would have tucked my tail between my legs and left long ago. How can you have the gall to stay here? Aren't you afraid of being laughed at?"
Mrs. Grace Draven's dislike for the Langstons was growing by the minute.
Stella spoke up defensively, "Lemira is my friend. She's not like the rest of them. She cut ties with the Langston family a long time ago."
Mrs. Grace Draven's voice was sharp. "Cutting ties with her own family just to get close to you? She must be desperate to climb the social ladder. Just like that Evelina, no different at all."
Mrs. Waverly then turned to Lemira. "Ms. Langston, you've heard what everyone is saying. You should leave. It's not appropriate for you to remain at this party."
"Mrs. Waverly, do you have a problem with my girlfriend?"
Orion's deep, cold voice cut through the air.
