When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 638

Evander took Evelina’s hand. “Asher, now that our family’s biggest crisis is resolved, I’d like to get engaged to Eve as soon as possible, to give her that official status.”

Evelina’s smile froze on her face. “Evander, there’s no need to rush, is there? Asher still has so much on his plate.”

She did not want to get engaged to Evander.

But Asher agreed to Evander’s request, saying they would discuss it after the Waverlies’ birthday party.

Evelina was so angry she could have killed someone.

At that moment, Lemira felt an unsettling gaze on her.

She looked up and saw the backs of the Langstons as they were leaving, but not before catching Evelina’s dark, hateful glare.

Lemira shot back a provocative look, which made Evelina’s face turn pale with rage.

Lemira knew Evelina had introduced PZ Group to Asher. She would have to investigate that thoroughly.

She was eagerly awaiting the look on Asher’s face when he finally learned the truth.

That would be the day the Langston family went bankrupt.

The event ended, and Lemira noticed Orion still hadn’t shown up. She wondered how things were at the hospital.

On the way back to campus, Lemira called Debby from her PR team. “Any news from the auto shop?”

“The guy is a veteran mechanic at the shop. He’s skilled and well-liked. He’s been keeping a normal routine—work, home, dinner and card games with colleagues. Nothing out of the ordinary.”

Lemira thought about Evelina’s recent activities. “Check if there’s any connection between PZ Group and Evelina.”

There had to be a link.

Before hanging up, she added, “How is the elderly Mrs. Everhart’s condition?”

“The old matriarch isn’t doing well. She’s still in the ICU.”

Lemira glanced out the window. No wonder Orion never made it to the conference.

When Lemira got back to her dorm, she saw Stella was also back, her eyes red and swollen.

Lemira had her own selfish reasons for helping Stella. The Waverlies were leaders in the news media industry. If Stella could gain independence and a voice within the family, it would make Lemira’s investigation into the Sinclair family much smoother.

One week later, on the day of the Waverlies’ birthday party, Lemira received another large gift box before leaving the dorm. It had no luxury brand logo on it.

She knew it was from Orion. He had been sending things every day for the past week, and her dorm room was nearly overflowing.

Stella opened the box and burst out laughing. “So Orion bought this dress! I heard Evelina wanted it so badly that your brother even came to me for help. Tsk, tsk, that two-faced girl is going to die of jealousy today.”

Oanice asked tentatively, “So, Lemira, are you going to wear it?”

“Yes.”

If it could infuriate Evelina, why wouldn’t she?

Today’s birthday party was incredibly important for Lemira as well.

Just then, her phone rang. She glanced at the screen and saw it was Asher.

Her expression turned cold as she answered. “Lemira,” he said, “the Langstons were invited to Stella’s birthday today. If you want to come back to the family and be my sister again, then you can come with us.”
