Sure enough, word of Leon’s grave injury had reached them.

“Where’s the scout?” Jessica asked sharply, having slept through the afternoon.

Now fully awake, the exhaustion from days of travel had completely faded.

Elijah brought in the scout, a Kabury County scout, no less. This time, even the County Chief had come.

“Ms. Yates,” the County Chief said, his voice full of anxiety, “our scouts are seasoned veterans who’ve patrolled every inch of the Vrahmont Mountains fo years. Their intel can’t be wrong.”

All the soldiers in the city were brought by Leon. As it turned out, Leon had taken just a hundred men to Mount Vrahmont, a fact even the County Chief hadn’t known before the main force returned to the city.

The rest of the soldiers had been lying low outside the city walls, moving with utmost discretion. Clearly, this was a deliberate attempt at concealment.

But why?

The County Chief finally turned to Jessica, his voice trembling with worry. “Ms. Yates, Prince Leon has left the army stationed here in Kabury County, Does that mean… are we about to face some kind of disaster?”

Jessica had visited before, leaving a deep impression on everyone.

As people said, Jessica’s reputation was well–earned. Last time, she single–handedly rescued Waldo!

“I don’t know,” she said curtly, offering no further explanation. After questioning the scout for a few details, she turned to Elijah and ordered, “You take the men and head to Vrahmont Mount right now. Prince Leon needs to be rescued!”

“What about Kabury County then…” The County Chief wiped sweat from his brow.

‘After all this commotion, the troops just arrived, and now they’re leaving again?‘ the County Chief thought.

The people watched as the army entered the city, and now panic was spreading among them.

“The rebels are all at Vrahmont Mount. Kabury County is in no danger. Here’s what we’ll do,” Jessica said, her impatience clear. “Gather a thousand soldiers. I’ll stay and help defend the city.” With a dismissive wave of her hand, she sent the chief on his way.

Sure enough, the County Chief soon gathered a thousand soldiers. But to his surprise, Jessica kept the troops in the makeshift barracks and sent him

back to his residence to rest.

After the County Chief left, Elijah turned to Jessica, concern evident in his voice. “Do really have to go to Vrahmont Mount? If I leave… what will you do,

Ms. Yates?”

Although they had a plan, Elijah knew he couldn’t provide the elite warriors Jessica needed. All he could offer were his fellow soldiers,

They were seasoned fighters, but none had real command experience.

Originally, their thousand–strong unit had enough leaders–Leon, Magnus, Shawn, Elijah, and Ray. But now, Jessica stood alone.

“Don’t worry. Just do as I say. Have the soldiers swap uniforms, then take the men from Kabury County out for a spin.”

Jessica’s face remained calm and composed. Though the situation was dire, not a trace of worry could be seen on her fair, deste features.

‘This young woman, Elijah thought in awe, ‘barely more than a girl, yet her commanding presence is truly one in a million.

Elijah hesitated, worry etched on his face. “Ms. Yates, maybe I should stay…”
