Chapter 346
“By spending the entire night in her chambers, you’ve already ruined her reputation,” Jessica said. “What’s the point of worrying about it not
Jessica’s words made Garbisch’s expression darken repeatedly. He opened his mouth, yet couldn’t find the words to explain
He had no idea how things had come to this. When he heard that Elsie was looking for him, he went in, only for her tis suddenly throw herself into his arms right in front of everyone.
After that, the imperial physician insisted that Elsie mustn’t get agitated, so they had Garbisch stay and look after her
Malik also made it clear that Elsie’s well–being came first; as for the rumors, he couldn’t care less.
So Garbisch had no choice but to stay behind. In the end, he and Elsie ended up alone together through the night.
By now, most of the night had passed, and in just over an hour, dawn would break.
Later, Elsie woke up again and immediately started insisting on seeing Garbisch.
Left with no choice, Garbisch went back in to tend to her again.
Malik found Jessica as dawn approached.
By now, Leon had stayed with Jessica the entire night. His face was ashen, and his wounds still hadn’t fully healed, but as long as Jessica refused to
leave, he wouldn’t either.
“I’ll be right back. Get some rest,” Jessica said, instructing a servant to bring Leon some warm broth to sip slowly. Only then did she turn and go to great
Malik.
“Ms. Yates, let’s cut to the chase,” Malik said urgently. He was pressed for time and still needed to deal with Leon. His anxiety was obvious.
Jessica met his gaze with composure. “What can I do for you, Your Highness?”
Malik said, “Princess Elsie used to be quite taken with… with Prince Leon. Ms. Yates, I’ll be blunt. Now that Garbisch has saved Elsie, she seems to have
set her heart on him.”
Jessica said, “Princess Elsie is simply traumatized. Right now, she’s just clinging to the first lifeline she can find. As for how she truly feels about Garbisch, I doubt even she knows herself.”
So–called promises like these, Jessica had no intention of making. After all, this was Garbisch’s business–she had no right to make any promises for him.
“I understand what you mean, Your Highness. But in the end, whether this comes to pass ultimately depends on the two of them.”
“No, Ms. Yates, I’m afraid you’ve misunderstood my meaning.”
“Are you talking about Garbisch’s health condition?” Jessica’s expression grew cold. “That’s why I said this is something they need to resolve themselves. Neither you nor 1 have the right to interfere. Of course as a prince of Askar, you could petition the King to force a political marriage between Garbisch and Princess Elsie. But if you intend to use this as leverage to command Garbisch to go to Askar…”
Jessica paused, her gaze piercing through him like/winter frost. “Unless Garbisch goes willingly, the Yates family will fight to the last breath against those who dare force us, I swear.”
Malik quickly bit back the words on the tip of his tongue.
Outwardly, Jessica appeared delicate and fragile, her voice soft and gentle, yet her words cut sharper than any blade.
Recalling how Mcbride had been crippled and Waldo lamed… Though they had brought it upon themselves, it all came down to having crossed her.
