“I’m going to meet with the people at the palace,” Jessica said as she handed a small box to Garbisch. “Garbisch, can you please go to the Leolt House in person? Just tell them… that, the unlucky woman who got rejected in an engagement, am not worthy of him.”

“You’re not the one who got rejected–it’s clearly that you didn’t want His Highness!” Garbisch said. He couldn’t bear hearing Jessica called unlucky- The moment she said those words, he felt a sharp pang in his heart.

“This is the only excuse I could think of. Garbisch, time’s running out–hurry!” Jessica urged, giving him a gentle push out the door.

Garbisch understood the urgency. With no time to waste, he could only go along with it. He carefully stored the box and hurried out.

Jessica quickly made her way to the front courtyard, only to find that the visitor was Selma, Consort Adele’s personal maid. She wasn’t from the king’s side.

Jessica let out a quiet sigh of relief and approached her slowly. “Selma, what brings you here today? Is there some special occasion that has you coming in person to my house?”

Selma smiled and replied, “Consort Adele recently received some exquisite coffee and would like to invite you to the palace to enjoy it with her. Look, she’s even arranged a carriage for you, so you can see just how much she’s been thinking of you.”

Without giving Jessica a chance to decline, Selma continued, “Consort Adele has been waiting for a while now. Please, let’s go!”

In the Harmony Palace, Consort Adele held a fine white cup in her hands.

“Jessica, it’s been so long since you’ve returned to Capitalia, and

you haven’t come to talk with me. Have you forgotten about me?” Consort Adele asked.

Jessica leaned forward slightly. “I would never dare. It’s just that my grandfather’s health has been poor lately, and I’ve been busy taking care of him, so I haven’t had the time to come visit and pay my respects to Your Highness. Please forgive me.”

“Oh, your grandfather’s health is worsening again?” Consort Adele’s face showed concern, but then she quickly shifted the topic. “I thought you were busy looking after General Garbisch. After all, with the way he was injured, he’ll probably never fully recover.”

Jessica’s eyes darkened for a moment.

Consort Adele, pretending not to notice, continued with her comforting words. “I’m really worried that General Garbisch won’t survive such a shock. Jessica, you must take good care of him.

“Don’t worry–no matter what happens to the Yates family, as long as I and Waldo are still alive, we will make sure you and your brother never suffer.”

Jessica lowered her gaze, concealing all the emotions in her eyes.

She replied calmly, “Thank you for your concern, Your Highness, but my engagement to Prince Waldo has been canceled.

“To avoid any misunderstandings or gossip, my brother and I will handle the affairs of the Yates family ourselves. There’s no need for Your Highness to worry about it.”

“What do you mean, Jessica?” Consort Adele’s smile grew even more benign. “You and Waldo are already so close. Everyone in the army knows it.

“Who doesn’t know that you two sleep together every night? With a relationship like that, how can you just say the engagement is canceled like that?”

“Your Highness, please be careful with your words!” Jessica’s face changed slightly, and a flash of anger appeared in her eyes. “Though I was once engaged to Prince Waldo, I have always acted with propriety, never crossing any boundaries. I ask that you please recognize that.”

“Is that so?” Consort Adele raised her cup, the bright red lips slowly tracing the edge of the cup.
