When His Perfect Mask Shattered I Awoke (Anneliese) novel Chapter 739

Smiling, Anneliese picked up her bowl of chicken porridge and took a few sips before her phone rang again.

It was the same unfamiliar number.

This time, she answered it. Then, an unfamiliar woman's voice came through.

"Hello, is this Anneliese?"

"I am. May I ask who you are?"

"Anneliese, sorry to bother you. I'm Aunt Martha. We met at the Fullbuster Residence before. Do you remember me?"

Anneliese paused slightly.

During the last New Year, Jonathan had taken her to the Fullbuster Residence. At the time, she had been kidnapped and had an injury on her head, so she only met his relatives briefly. She vaguely remembered Martha as a slightly plump woman with a gentle demeanor, but they hadn't spoken much.

However, Martha's daughter, Felyxia, had been lively and had run upstairs into the room, chatting endlessly with Anneliese. It was Felyxia who had accidentally revealed that Jonathan once painted a portrait of his first love.

Later, Felyxia called Anneliese, crying to apologize that she hadn't meant it. She also complained that Jonathan had heartlessly assigned her to work during the New Year because of this. She was sent with the Fullbuster Group to visit nursing homes, forcing her to play the guitar for elderly residents for five days until her fingers turned red and swollen.

Anneliese's impression of Martha wasn't bad. She also remembered that Martha had given her a pair of gold bracelets as a meeting gift.

Although surprised that Martha would contact her, Anneliese still responded warmly. "Hello, Aunt Martha. Of course, I remember you."

Martha didn't engage in much small talk. She said she had come from Halden to visit friends and happened to have some free time, so she asked Anneliese if the latter would like to go shopping together.

Her tone was gentle and polite. Anneliese found it hard to refuse and agreed. After quickly finishing breakfast, she carried Ellie and went out.

She smiled enthusiastically, so Anneliese couldn't exactly turn and leave. Seeing Ellie hide behind her, she crouched to comfort the child, using the motion to avoid Martha's outstretched hand.

"This is my friend's daughter. I'm helping to take care of her for the day."

Martha's smile stiffened for a moment at Anneliese's cool attitude, but she quickly recovered her composure and said, "The last meeting we had was so rushed. We didn't get to talk properly. You're a good child, and I liked you the moment I saw you. Oh, right, are you fully recovered? Did the injury on your head leave a scar? I own a cosmetic hospital, so you can tell me if you need treatment…"

Anneliese smiled and shook her head. "It's already healed. Thank you for asking, Aunt Martha."

As she spoke, Martha guided her to the table. Anneliese seated Ellie on her lap and looked up—meeting Elizabeth's gaze.

Elizabeth lifted her teacup, took a sip, and said, "Have you forgotten how to greet people?"

The last time Elizabeth had barged into the Banyans, things had ended terribly between her and Jonathan, and she had also humiliated herself in front of Anneliese.
