Rachel paused, confused. "Baby, why do you say 'again'? I just found out from them this afternoon, did you already know?"
Ziggy shook his head. "No, didn't you just mention the incident at the toilet?"
Rachel scratched her head awkwardly. "Oops, I must've confused myself."
Ziggy reached out from under the blanket and patted Rachel's head with a smile. "Mommy is a little scatterbrained!"
Rachel hugged Ziggy and rolled around in bed as they both laughed loudly like bells.
"Baby, I have a feeling that a guardian angel is protecting me! Every time something bad happens, they’ve always protected me from all the bad things!"
Ziggy nodded happily.
He wanted to tell Rachel that he was the guardian angel she was talking about.
However, to avoid scaring her, he chose to remain silent.
"That's right! Mommy's guardian angel must be very handsome!"
Rachel pouted. "How do you know it’s a man?! I think she must be a beautiful woman angel!"
Ziggy shook his head decisively. "No no! That guardian angel must be a boy!"
Rachel looked at Ziggy curiously. "A boy??"
Ziggy paused and immediately pulled the blanket over his head. "I dunno! How would that kind of beings exist! Mommy is so silly!"
Rachel hugged Ziggy tightly as she smiled. "Whether they exist or not, as long as we can live a happy life, I'll be satisfied."
Ziggy turned to face Rachel and nodded sincerely. "Mm, mommy, we will live a happy life."
Midnight, after making sure Rachel had gone into a deep sleep where she emitted slow, even breaths, Ziggy lowered his gaze.
He recalled the night before when Edward slept by his side.
He muttered, "I wonder what happened to Josh and his father."
In the meantime, at the Bluemel mansion, Josh sat on the sofa after he had washed up and proceeded to read his books. Meanwhile, Edward stayed in his room, reading documents and contracts.
The night was growing late, so the butler gently pressed onto Josh's shoulders. "Young Master Josh, it's time to rest."
Josh simply nodded but then turned to look at Edward's room on the second floor.
He nodded at the old butler. "I know, you should go and rest, Pennyworth."
The old butler looked at Josh, not understanding. "Young Master Josh, are you not going to bed yet?"
Josh confirmed. "I will wait until father finishes."
The old butler glanced at the second floor and nodded lightly. "Alright then. Young Master Josh, please take care, don't catch a cold."
He pulled a warm blanket over Josh.
Josh smiled at the old butler. "Thank you."
The space was quiet. Edward was still working in his room, occasionally peering toward the closed door.
He was curious. Why had Josh not knocked on his door, unlike yesterday?
Josh shook his head after a brief pause. "I don't know. I've been home these days, so I don't know if any of these happened."
Rue continued to test him. "What about you? Did you meet anyone who looked like me?"
Josh recalled the night Rachel brought him to the amusement park, her gentleness, and her smile. He shook his head.
"No, mother. Why did you ask? Is there someone else who looks like you?"
Slap— Rue backhand slapped Josh's face guiltily, but unhappily.
"I'll be the one asking the questions. Since when did I say you can ask questions?!"
Josh lowered his gaze in disappointment. "Mother, I'm sorry."
Can a woman like this really be his mother?
Is his mother really not the much gentler woman who would call him 'baby'?
"Also, you need to help mediate the relationship between your father and I, do you understand?"
Seeing Josh who had, once again, defied her orders, Rue was enraged.
She tossed the warm blanket off of Josh's body and lifted him in one fell swoop. Her face was fierce as a tigress's stance. "What did you say?!"
