Mavis could not believe she had just squeezed Nathaniel's… butt.
Her scream woke Nathaniel up. As he opened his eyes, the woman in his arms quickly escaped his embrace, moving to the edge of the bed as if she had seen a monster.
Unaware of what had happened, Nathaniel turned on the overhead light as he rolled over. The room instantly brightened, and he saw the look of shock on Mavis' face.
"What's wrong?"
Mavis stared at her hand as if she had committed a terrible crime. Moreover, Nathaniel's expression clearly showed he had no idea what she had just done, and her ears turned bright red.
She felt so embarrassed she wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear.
"Um… I'm awake now. I'll go downstairs."
Nathaniel held her back. "Why don't you stay for dinner first?"
"No, thanks."
Dinner?
Mavis wanted nothing more than to escape this place because she had just groped this man!
She was so ashamed of herself!
She broke free from Nathaniel's grasp and strode out of the room, leaving Nathaniel confused.
As Mavis left the VIP ward, she checked the time on her phone and found it was indeed dinner time. Evan had Dylan looking after him, so he should have finished eating by now.
Besides, Nathaniel mentioned arranging for a caretaker, but she was unsure if one had arrived yet or when they would.
Her phone buzzed with an international text message, informing her about an urgent project report from her company in Vraeyce.
Mavis only went as far as Evan's ward door, peeking through the small window. Dylan was with Evan, so she probably would not be needed that night, and she could return to Ascend Apartment to handle work matters.
With this in mind, she did not linger and sent a message to Dylan, thanking him for looking after Evan. Then, she rushed back to Ascend Apartment.
She worked until late into the night. When she was finally done, she lay in bed.
In the end, she had to ask the nurse to show her the way to Evan's new ward. As they walked, she could clearly sense the nurse's confusion. After all, the young nurse had witnessed Mavis' devoted care for Evan over the past two days.
However. the relationship between her, Nathaniel, and Evan was complicated, and Mavis decided it was best not to explain.
As she entered the ward, the morning sunlight streamed through the windows, falling on Evan's face. His complexion looked much better than it had in the past few days.
"Mae, you're here."
Evan looked up at the sound of footsteps, and he felt more at ease when he saw that it was her.
"How are you feeling?"
"Much better. You really didn't need to spend so much money on me. The regular private room was fine. Why go to such lengths for a VIP ward?"
Evan smiled, but his eyes held a hint of curiosity. He understood that this arrangement could not be done with just money. In fact, it was not something Mavis could have set in such a short time. Hence, Nathaniel's influence must have been behind it.
He was more curious if this was Mavis' request or if she had simply compromised.
